5' rotary mower on a 2320 ?

Darin,

I appreciate your comment about the "different planets" between the 3720 and 2320, but I can say from experience that might not be TOTALLY the case. In the right circumstance I can work better and faster with the 2320 than the 3720. In some situations, I have found the smaller machine to be almost twice as fast doing tasks. I would phrase my experience like this: my 4520 was as good--or a little better--than I thought it would be; my 4310 was not as good as I thought it would be; my 2 3720's were about what I thought they would be or perhaps slightly less good; and my 2320 is MUCH better than I thought it would be. Interesting, I think.

Smaller more agile, however strength limited in comparison to the the larger tractor obviously. It really depends on what you really want to do with it. For my purposes, the former 4310 and the current 3520 were/are much faster than the former 4100, which we all know, is the 2320's ancestor. However, if the tasks require agility in tight spots the 4100/2320 is typically, much faster as long as it does not require lifting or carrying loads near the max of the unit..

Are we talking about the same thing here? He was asking about a 5' vs. 4' shredder. The HP differences the tractors make a huge difference. I had a 2210 and in thick pastures - it could barely spin a 4' shredder. A 4720 with a MX-6 cuts it with no problem.

I totally get the small, nimble argument. All that goes out the window if the tractor is not capable of doing what needs to be done. I have both a 5525 cab and a 4520 cab. I use the 4520 whenever I can because it is so easy to use. There are things it just can't do. It won't pull a 15' batwing, it won't run my 10'6" hay cutter, or the round baler. The smaller tractor does a lot of things well and in some cases easier. With that being said - it won't do everything.

So, 2320 vs. 3720 spinning a 5' shredder - it is still too different planets.

Called my dealer about the LX4 for the 2320--you'd thought I had grown horns. Said he had never sold one before. Anyhow, still intend to get one for the clearance to get in betwixt my many oaks. As long as it is Imatch compatible.

Seems like the 5 footer would be more unstable on slopes--another reason I wanted the 4 footer.

have an mx6 and 5203 for more demanding work.

I think you are making the right call. My 2210 had a hard time in thick grass with a LX4.

I have been using a 2320 with a Frontier RC1048 for over a year. No problems in thick grass and brambles up to at least 1" thick.

The light duty Woods Heritage 54" Rotary cutter seems to work very well. It sticks out past my rear wheels a little and the tractor seems to have plenty of power for it. The only time I loose a few hundred RPM's is when I start up one of my many hills. On the level there is no problem at all. Last year I used a tow behind Swisher brush hog behind my ATV, and the previous years I borrowed my bosses SAME Mini Tauras with a 6' Land pride Rotory cutter. The side hills make me a little nervous but I mow most of them straight up and down. I have not had the front tires off the ground yet so I think it is a pretty good match. Thanks for all the advice.
