Harbor Freight Chain

I like those Talco prices.

The rule:
Part 393: Parts and accessories necessary for safe operation

The chart I posted above is easier to follow. Here it is again
http://www.1st-chainsupply.com/binderreq.pdf

The rules don't seem to specify grade or size so much as whether the total working load limit meets the requirements.

If you want to satisfy the rules and secure 10,000lbs with 2 chains then 3/8" grade 43 and higher or 5/16 grade 70 and higher seem to be the choices. If you're worried you can just add a 3rd chain.

I did a lot of shopping around for a quality US chain at a good price. Talco is the place I like.:D:):D:)

That price at Harbor Freight is outrageous! The same chain at Talco is $28.95 for American made 5/16 G70!

Nothing against Talco or American made chain but if you watch the HF ads their chain goes on sale quite often. I have a bunch of it and don't think I've ever paid much more than half price for it;)

The reason that I use 3/8" chain is because the standard ratchet binders are for 3/8" to 1/2" chain. I could also get by with 5/16" according to the rules.

I use G43 from HF and have been very happy with it over thousands of miles hauling my tractor. The chain is heavy and since I use 4 of them I don't really need them to be any longer than say 5 feet but I still keep them long for emergencies or unexpected needs.

Standard? All my "standard" ratchet binders are marked 5/16-3/8
I do have some really big spring loaded flip overs that are marked 3/8-1/2.

;)

Woops, I mean standard from Harbor freight located right with their chain. The word "standard" is probably not the best. HF did not have a smaller ratchet binder.

Those ratchet binders have been excellent.

So the 9200 and the 5400 binders form HF are both for use with 5/16 and 3/8 chain? It looks like they are the same price so I'll probably get the heavier rated when I go get some.
