Tractor
Kubota M5040 with FEL, JD X320 Lawn Tractor
They just delivered my first tractor. I bought the M5040 with FEL. What a sweet tractor. I also got a WOODS BRUSHBULL Rotary cutter (6 ft) with the tractor. My wife already hates it because I have not been off it since it arrived.
I appreciate all the help and input you guys gave me while I was deciding on a tractor. Believe me this forum is so much help.

I look forward to giving updates on its use........ Thanks Again

Pictures are mandatory here :p Enjoy your new machine. The rule is to buy your second tractor first. You apparently are not messing around!

Your experience sounds just like mine.

We bought a M4900 with a loader and a medium duty Brushbull in March of 2006. It's been trouble free with the exception of flat front tires. We fixed that with foam. Enjoy the seat time.

Congrats on the new M5040!

I have owned 2 of them and they are a great tractor!

Enjoy it!

Did any of you consider the 6040 (or previous 5700) before purchasing the model you have?

My 5040 was on the lot so thats the one I went with........... if a 5040, 6040, and 7040 Cab had been on the lot it might have been a different choice......but I love my M5040 Cab!

bpsooner: congrat on the M series. think you were the one debating an MX vs the M series a while back. WISE choice of the 5040 over the MX. I cobbled a 127 acre farm with a Massey 35 for 28 yrs (still a good tractor for what it was) then went w/Kubota. What I didn't realize when I purchased an L series tractor was that not all HP is equal. A 50 hp machine in the 5040 is FAR more tractor than the 50 hp in the MX......larger frame, FEL, tires, etc. I could never go back from my current M tractor...... you did well to go M and wishing you well on your wise choice. bb

Thanks Bubba. That is exactly why I went with the M 5040. Larger tractor and a lot more features that the MX-5100 had. My wife wanted me to get a Deere but I liked the M5040 better than the 5055E and had a better price.........

I spent 7 hours on my new M7040 yesterday running a 6' rotary mower and wasn't nearly as beat as when I use my old IH 424. You are going to love your new M5040 for mowing. Good choice on picking the M over the MX it really is quite a lot more machine.

I cannot wait until this evening to start using the 6ft mower. I have already begun doing some FEL work and it was a blast.

I don't know how smooth your place is but I was mowing first cutting yesterday in 5th gear at 5.2mph (540 pto speed) cutting to 3"-4" stubble height (M7040HD with KK 72" rotary cutter). I was even able to consume some beverages with out bouncing all over the place or foaming issues!

Do you have HST or Synch Shuttle. I was debating on whether or not to mow in Rabbit mode. It sounds like the spead at which you mowed that would be the case.

My M7040 has the hydraulic shuttle. I put the range in high (rabbit) and the gear selector in 1rst. At 540N on the digital PTO indicator I was traveling 5.2 MPH. Even in 3ft tall grass up hill I was not bogging the tractor down at all.

I will try it in high (1st gear). My grass it about 3-4 feet and pretty flat. Thanks for the input..............

Using my M5040HDC and Woods 8ft twin spindle cutter on Bahia requires me to use 4th gear, low, and run about 3.7mph to get a decent cut. Any faster leaves too much stuble behind....now if I wasn't cutting Bahia I could probably cut alot faster.

Curious why many of you are using 6ft cutters on your M series which clearly can handle larger cutters?

Being that I just got my M5040 and do not know all its capabilities, can it pull a 8ft disc with no problem. My father in law has a 8ft disc and says it should be able to handle it. My soil contains a lot of clay...........

I just read the Owner's manual this morning and my M7040 is rated to pull a 10' disc. I think the 5040/6040 are both rated to pull an 8'. I did some with my 3pt 6.5' disc last night and I had to keep checking to make sure it was still back there.

I am using a 6' rotary cutter because I already had one. I'll likely step up to something bigger as the budget allows.
