Ever notice when you're with a group of diesel truck owners and you ask the others in the group "what brand of truck do you own"?
Many Dodge guys will reply "I own a Cummins"

Yes, exactly. Its almost like a brand onto itself. THe "Dodge" is secondary.

That was how I always put it, but right know I do have a 01 dodge 2500 with the 360 in it(1st gas truck in 15yrs) and I can say that it is a gutless wonder.(I wonder what it does with all the gas as it don't make the rear tires spin)

I will say that every truck has its place and market, but its a sad day for America when we quite building trucks we will buy. Hope one of the big 3 keeps/starts making trucks here in the US with US built diesel powerplant.

No, I've never noticed. I'm a Dodge owner and proud of it. All the vehicles in my family are Chrysler. BTW, I used to be a Chevy man, still like them, but I like my Dodge better.

I think Dodge is missing out by not launching the small cummins in the 1500 class pickups. That "image" provided by the cummins history could only help. ....

....Cummins has said that they intend to offer this V8 to other manufacturers. THis will help the other manufacturers image, while diluting the Dodge Cummins brand.

The QSB 6.7 is putting out 350 hp these days ? Then a QSB 4.5 would put out 233 hp.. Wouldnt that be enough for a half ton pickup ? the early 90's 5.9 BTA put out only 160 to 200 hp...
A lighter duty V8 might put out the same hp at a lower weight than the 6.7 but not deliver the torque...

I suspect they want the V8 because the hoods are getting so short.

The pickups are starting to morph into vans.

Yes a V8 is shorter than the QSB 6.7 but a QSB 4.5 wont be that much longer than a V8...

About pickups, they are extinct and forgotten in Europe, vans all over the place because of easier manoeuvering and more efficient usage of space.

About style, sure a full size pickup truck looks better than our European vans, but iエve never seen Miss America using a shovel either.. ;)
