I balance every set of tire that goes on a trailer. I usually have to argue with the tire guy because they say its not necessary on trailers but I can tell you it makes a difference.

Horses can also tell the difference, their legs and feet don't like riding for hours on unbalanced tires.

I agree with the balancing of trailer tires. I would think that all tires would benefit from being balanced. The guys at my tire shop think the same way. Why?? It don't help trailer tires. I almost want to tell them if they don't want to balance them then I will go somewhere else.

Beyond balancing, when was the last time that you saw a "tire jockey" torque your lug nuts to spec? Hammer at it with the air gun until it sounds about right seems to be the norm.

I recently had my OEM truck tires rotated at Discount Tire, and I was shocked to see the guy grab a torque wrench and torque all 24 lug nuts to the factory spec. That was my first time dealing with Discount Tire, and odds are good that I'll be going back when I need tires (soon---lousy OE Goodyears). FWIW, there was also no charge for the rotation, even though the tires are factory originals.
