Dodge and Cummins No More????

are all the bugs worked out of the 6.7 Cummins? i read where they had some issues but others stated the 08's and up aren't having any problems. can anyone shed any light on this? from what i read, the 6.7 is also complient with 2010 emmisions, so i guess it's here to stay for awhile like the 5.9 was.

You never know....when an Italian company up & buys Chrysler the only thing that's gauranteed is CHANGE.

I think they'll keep Cummins for reasons mentioned above.

I'll look at one next time around. I like the 3500 chassis/6.7/Aisin/Exhaust brake and a 9' utility body that can tow 16K lbs. ;)

well i haven't spoken up, but i personally don't care for Iveco engines. at least the ones found in New Holland tractors. no factual data to back up my preference, but just don't care for them. i'm sure they are great engines, but just not for me. guess i'm biased or something. hopefully Cummins will be around for years to come. i'm wondering why GM or Ford didnt put a jake brake in their HD trucks like Dodge did?

Maybe he should put a clutch in in I would not think a clutch is a warranty item unless it comes apart.

Well, none of them are really "jake brakes" (meaning an engine brake that closes engine valves to reduce speed of the truck). Actually what they use is an exhaust brake that closes a flap or butterfly valve in the exhaust downpipe to increase braking power. Jakes are usually found on 10L & larger engines, but there are some exceptions.

GM does offer an exhaust brake (or what you're calling a "jake brake") on their 4500/5500 chassis similar to the the one offered on the Dodge 3500/4500/5500.

I think it'd be sweet if they'd offer the same exhaust brake on a 2500/3500 pickup. ;) I'd be all over that.

I think Navistar offered it in the 09 Fords too.

Seriously, I think the next one of the Big 3 that offers a ~25MPG 1/2 ton diesel will really enjoy some nice future sales numbers.

Amen to that! For the last little while now around here diesel has been 40 to 50 cents a gallon cheaper than gasoline. It has even had me wondering if I shouldn't have gone with a 3/4 ton diesel - and by no means do I need a 3/4 ton!

I will happily line of up for a decent 1/2 ton diesel like that. It will have to be proven in the real world for a few years though before I sign up for it. I tend to be conservative with new engines and power trains.

I was really dissapointed that the 1/2 ton GMC and Dodge diesel projects got shelved / delayed.

just wait until all of this electric hybrid b.s. in a full size truck falls flat on its face. then we'll hopefully see 1/2 ton diesels out the ying yang. i'm sorry, but 5,500lbs of towing just ain't gonna cut it in my world. my tractor alone weighs over 6,000 without a fel. i don't need a grocery getter, what i need is a truck that will so the work i need to do while getting the best fuel economy possible without sacraficing towing numbers. my current truck gets 16mpg, it's not great, but i've been able to live with it for the past 5 years. would i trade it in on a new truck that gets 20mpg but tows 2,000 less? absolutely not!

If we can get ~20 mpg out a a larger diesel in a heavy truck I would think we could get better than 25 mpg out of a smaller diesel that is geared properly for a 1/2 ton. Just my 2 cents.

I feel the same way. I get high 23's in my 4x4 F-350 with the 6.0 PS on the highway. Its got a different intake, 4" exhaust, and a chip. It will do 17 around town and has done so for the last 40,000 miles.

Diesel cars and the rare Diesel Rangers of the 80's were getting in the mid 40's. The new Jetta gets in the 50 range. I would think a 1/2 ton should do a min of 30 un-modified. Heck, my neighbors bone stock 2007 3500 3x3 Dmax can squeeze out 21 at 65mph on the highway. We took it on a 500 mile round trip to Detroit pulling a Lincoln Aviator on my car haul trailer 1/2 of that, the other half with a empty trailer, and we averaged 16 mpg on that round trip.
