Rental attachments

Has anyone ever rented a post hole digger to use with their BX23? Just wondering if I should look for a specific brand that would work best. Only have a few holes to put in for a deck, and didn't want to buy one for myself.

Who you rent from may not understand sub compact tractor. The BX's will not use most post hole diggers. There is a Lienbach Jr for BX's, I'm not recommending it I'm just saying it is supposed to fit the BX's.

For just a few holes I would not remove the BH to hook up a post hole digger.
I'd just dig the holes with the BH .

Depending on your ground, you could also rent a self contained post hole digger with small gas engine for one or two operators to use.

The standard Leinbach's work on a BX, with a "standard" length auger, whatever that is. I never actually measured the one that I used, but it came with the auger. (Which I subsequently mangled, and will be buying my buddy a new one.)

It does barely clear the ground when travelling though.

For only a few holes, you want to use an implement instead of doing it with a manual post-hole digger? I'd like to say that I don't understand that line of thinking, but I can't...

Ha! Well, I had a secondary goal too....wanted to see if it would be worth it to pick one up eventually. You know, to add to the "collection" of toys!

Problem is, I need to put the holes in specific areas, without damaging the concrete around it. Otherwise, I'd be in there with the BH, trust me!

I've never used the motorized hand augers before. I don't know how good they are for going down 4-5 feet and 8-12" in diameter. They always looked kinda dangerous to me.

Looks like you know what you need and have evaluated your choices logically. Just remember to make sure the one you rent will fit the BX. The one man or 2 man hand operated motor on top can be extremely dangerous. I saw 2 men operating one once and it would sling them all over the place when they would hit a rock or a really hard piece of clay and theirs was not 8" to 12" auger. Rent one for your tractor.

I think the longest auger (and still be able to drive around with) that you can mount to a BX23 is 48" in length with only 42" of usable depth. If you must go at least 4' down, you will have to finish each hole by hand.

I rented a bobcat with a posthole digger mounted on the front. After using that, it's hard to ever go back to a 3PT digger. You can push down with the hydraulics, so you can punch a hole and be done before a 3PT digger has even gotten started. It's also much easier to see what you're doing and don't have to twist your body around like a pretzel to see what's going on behind you.

I completely agree with Mark, a rented skidloader would be perfect. 3pt augers are good for fence posts, but a hole that big would be kinda tough on an AG, let alone a BX.
