Very interesting chart regarding heavy pickup market share and sales. Please do not turn this into a flame war.

Very interesting

It is a completely different story when you take the 1/2 tons out of the equation.

Hope you don't mind I posted the picture.

PS Do us a favor and find out how many are diesels LOL.

Its always been this way with Ford having about 1/2 the market and the others fighting for the rest. One interesting thing is of those trucks sold by Ford about 80-85%, depending on the year, are diesel. The are hands down the leader in HD truck sales and diesel sales for sure.

I think the real story is Dodge. They used to only carry about 17-20% of the market depending on the year, but now they are really taking GM share over.

Whats interesting is that sales for 09 are comparable to 08. It tells me that the economy hasn't had a negative impact on this particular market. One would expect a lot of difference in the two lines.

I thought light duty pickups were anything under F450/4500 etc

That graph only shows market share as a percentage. It does not show in any way the amount of vehicles sold. I would not think this graph would change too much from year to year.....

This is true. It gives the number of units for 2009 but not for 2008. There could have been twice the units sold in 2008 and the percentages could be nearly the same. This shows that brand loyalty has not changed much.

Either that or truck X suites contractors better. Truck Y suites tuners better, and truck Z suites daily driver/occasional tower better.

That's a good point Chris, that could be.

I guess the numbers can be manipulated to show just about whatever they want then.
