2009 Heavy Pickup YTD Sales

I think the chart (or sales numbers) proves nothing. Sales #'s could mean that they are on average the cheapest priced trucks, or best marketed trucks and therefore sell more units than the lesser selling brands. Fleet buyers buy the cheapest fleets of trucks. If they can buy 11 Ford HD trucks for the same price as 10 non-Ford trucks, they'll do it everytime.

McDonalds sells more burgers than the other fast food chains. The reason is price & marketing.

Me, I'll take a Wendy's burger over a McDonalds burger any day. They taste better, but they don't sell as many. The reason is because they cost more and they're advertised & marketed less.

How are the numbers manipulated?

It clearly shows units sold YTD and percentage of the market for each of the big 3(4) and shows that percentage for YTD '08.

I AGREE!! wendy's could be more profitable even though they do not control as large of a market share as mcd's. Numbers can be skewed.

The company I work for has bought about 40 Chevy trucks (all gassers, everything from Colorados, 1/2, 3/4 tons and vans) over the past few years. They didn't buy them for the quality, they bought them for the price. Cheap, stripped trucks, although they do have A/C. If this is the best GM can do there's no wonder they're in the trouble they're in. My department had a Colorado crew cab forced on us 3 years ago. This is the worst excuse for a vehicle that anyone could design. No visibility out the sides and back and simply a cheaply built truck.

You guys are nuts. The numbers are the numbers. How have they been manipulated? They show units sold. I agree that just because you sell the most does not mean you made the most money but this chart has nothing to do with money, just units sold. Sorry the chart did not say what you wanted it too.:p

I don't know why they separate Chevy from GMC when it's the same truck owned by GM. I drive a Dodge, but when I see a chart like that I always combine Chevy and GMC for total sales.

Whats interesting is that sales for 09 are comparable to 08. It tells me that the economy hasn't had a negative impact on this particular market. One would expect a lot of difference in the two lines.

2008 was a disaster year for diesel pickups. That is when diesel was nearly $5 a gallon. Dealers couldn't hardly give one away and many dealers refused to even take one in on trade. If 2009 numbers aren't up over 2008 in 3/4 and 1 ton pickup sales it shows the market is still really soft for them.

Good point Dargo. Like others said, I always combing all the GM numbers. They are the same truck. Really, GM should do away with one or the other. They compete with eachother and it takes more money to advertise both.

Actually, GM should just keep GMC for trucks and suv's, Cheby for the lower end cars, Buick for the step up vehicles, and Caddy for the top end stuff.

I also was shocked that Dodge had that big of a market share. They can thank Cummings for that. Like them or hate them, the Cummings has built a reputation that rivals the old 426 hemi.

Probably because phord sponsors the survey. It's the only way they can win the numbers game in most cases against GM. :D lol

Bottom line is, I guess they're fun to look at, but who cares about sales figures anyway? What you should care about is buying the truck that suits you best no matter how many they sell.

Some of the best vehicles & machines ever built were relatively low volume sellers.
