I think your best bet is being aware of what add-ons and implements exist and in what situations they are most helpful, so that you're educated ahead of time to know what would fit your needs best.

For example, I had lots and lots of piles of dead trees around my property from when the house was built a few years ago. Because of this, the thumb I got (Wallenstein was my preference) has been invaluable. If I didn't have all these trees all over, I probably would have only used the thumb a couple of times, so the money might have been better spent on something else.

Also, I have lots of wooded property in which I like to make trails. So, a box blade has been handy, and a landscape rake is probably next on my list.

I don't have a tiller, but I'd like to have one. But, in reality, I have very little use for one, so it's not something that I'll probably buy ever.

So, again, I think it's best just to read about all the different implements and how they're used so that you know what's best for your needs.

Rent one for tractor.

This isn't always the best, even if you aren't going to use it much. I purchased a Linebach PHD (yes, they're cheap, but I got my 42 holes in last year with it), for $375 last year, and it cost me WAY less than renting would. Between my family obligations, and my, and my wife's work schedule, I have to work on my projects a few hours at a time, when I can squeeze it in. I probably used the PHD on 15 separate days last year to get my fence in, which is a split rail, so you need to build the fence as you go, and in my case, because of roots and rocks, I often couldn't put them on a perfect 10' spacing (length of the rails I used), so then that section would take longer, as I needed to cut and re-shape the rails. Based on what these PHD's sell for used, I could easily get nearly what I paid for it if I sold it (don't have it any more, as it went as part of the B7100 package I sold, but my B7610 included a woods PHD).

Anyway, PHD's rent around here for about $75/day, so I would have spent way more for rental, and it would have been a PITA, logistically to have to go get it, and drop it off all the time.

I think that for many implements that you need only temporarily, unless you can get the job done in one day, it is often best to buy a good used implement, use it at your convenience, and then sell when your done.

JMHO, YMMV (just my humble opinion, your mileage may vary).

OP: In any case, congrats on your new BX25, may you enjoy it in good health, and get lots of quality seat time!

I also just ordered from brotek a front & rear skid, thumb, ripper, steering guard, tool box, & wheel spacers...

hevnbnd - Could you please elaborate on the "steering guard" you mentioned? I just looked at Bro-Tek's website and I do not see it listed. Does this guard protect the steering boots on the axle? Thanks.

It bolts under the BX Front guard. You can either use your toplink or buy the tool box that is $50 to mount up there. That is they way I went. Email them about it and they will send you a pdf on it. I tried to upload it but it is 1.5mb...

Can't help you with Canadian dealers but here are two websites geared towards BX models that sell really nice stuff. BXpanded.com and Bro-Tek: Tractor Add Ons. Harry from BXpanded and Richard from Bro-Tek (from Canadian) are great to work with. Another site to look at if you have a mid mount mower with your BX25 is Carrera,Cayman,BMW,Tow Hook License Plate,John Deere,Kubota.
