Yesterday I was making a new batch of lemonade (the jug was about 1/3 full) when I accidentally made a batch of iced tea. Well, 2 thirds iced tea with 1 third lemonade is AWESOME.

JimmyJ/RedBug,

I got my shirts on sale at Campmor a few years ago. Like I said they are HOT. They are also Gold/Yellow in color. Which is bad.

Its bad because my coworkers made fun of my yellow shirt.:D

Worse than my coworkers comments was that yellow does seem to attract bugs. Especially the biting kind. So no more yellow work shirts. :D

I'll take a look at the shirts at Dicks and REI.

Thanks,
Dan

My husband is working in Qatar. The last time he went back from leave he said the day before they had a black flag day. He said that means it over 120degrees, when that happens they stop work. He goes swimming daily and said they had to put a chiller on the pool, otherwise the water got so hot you couldn't swim in it.

Ok, we live near Houston and this summer has been brutal. 100 degree days, day after day after day this year. Hubby said felt good to him. I'm like others when I work outside I start sweating and know it wont stop. I take potassium pills and drink fluids, when you don't go to the bathroom all day you know its hot.

But we only keep our inside temp from 78 to 81, DD doesn't like it cold either and our AC will be turned off soon as possible.

I think my garden is gone, may be a few tomatoes, but I've noticed my water pump is running longer to recover so quit watering. Maybe one or two more pickings out there is all that's left anyway, I let them grow up in weeds to protect what is there. Today its only 93 so far but they are still saying 100. Oh boy

Wow. It's actually darned cool here now. The nights are just over 50 and the days are in the 70's. It's quite pleasant actually, sort of like fall. The garden is behind though, and the corn fields need heat to get them going. Oh well, be careful what you wish for right!

Yeah, but right now, I wish I had some of your weather. Your weather sounds ideal to me. Our low temperature this morning finally got down to 79, but it's 104 right now with a heat index of 106F. I finished spraying Thompson's Advanced Water Seal on the back fence about 7 a.m. and was already soaked with sweat when I finished. So then I sprayed insecticide on the lawn, around the house, under the eaves, in the garage, in the shop, and in the garden tool shed, then had to wash the outside of the windows to remove the insecticide overspray. I'm ready for Winter!

Yeah! Me too, Bird. I let my JD LA145 mower get a little low on fuel (not empty, but maybe 1/4" in bottom of the tank. The fuel quit pumping and when I refilled it, I could not get it pumping fuel to the engine again. I removed the fuel cap and pressurized the tank by blowing into it. That was enough to make the engine start for a second, but it rapidly died. Repeat this about 4 times and I'm ready to declare the fuel pump bad.

So I pushed the mower into the shade (I'm soaked by now) and began by disconnecting the hose just after the fuel filter. No problem, it poured out. I did the same at the input to the fuel pump (a handy external location) and it was okay too. I removed the output line to the carb and it did not flow. . .for a few seconds. Then it had a steady slow flow from gravity since the tank was full and above that point. I put the hose back on and removed the air filter to make sure nothing was amiss. I put everything back together and gave it a try on the starter. It fired right up. YEA!:D I suppose the fuel pump could not clear the air in the line and I allowed it to escape by opening the fuel lines and getting flow.

Just as I finished, Kathy walked up from the garden. She had picked okra (3 15' rows and one 20' row). Like me, she was soaking wet. We both had very little exertion, but anything more than sitting in the shade with a cool drink would probably have produced the same result.

So since we were already soaked, I mowed the lawn and she ran the weedeater. We couldn't get any wetter, so what the heck?:p:D

BTW: We are seeing quite a few scorpions lately. We always do after spraying around the fondation and the inside baseboards. All the ones in the house have been dead or dying, but the outside ones are quite lively. RavensRoost, do you have any scorpions? I bet you have the big ones. Here, over 1-1/2" is big. Mostly, we see little ones/infants.

Jim, I was 6 or 7 years old when a scorpion got in bed with me one night; stung me 3 times before I could get out of that bed. I don't think anything that's ever stung me hurt quite as bad as that scorpion. When we moved into a new house in September, 1972, on what was then the north side of Carrollton, I killed two scorpions in the house the first day or two we were there, and I promptly got professional exterminators to come stop that problem. I've never seen one in the house since, and in fact, haven't seen one anywhere in a lot of years.

I know you were glad to get that mower running right again. I did my mowing and string trimming Friday. I'm having to mow every 4 to 5 days and hope I can afford the next water and electric bills.

Since it cooled down today to only 96 degrees, I figured it was the best day for me to install a new breaker panel and meter box on my son's home. Since this had to be finished by night time, I started at 7:30 am and worked straight through till 8 pm.

I didn't stop to eat but I drank 2 cups of coffee, a pint of ice tea, six 1/2 liter bottles of water, a coke, and finally at the end, a can of beer. I didn't even use the bathroom all day.

Since I had read about all the weight some of you lost working in the heat, I weighed myself before starting, (174) and after finishing up, (168). That's a pretty big loss for one day. Too bad it's all water loss and not fat loss, I could stand to trim my mid-section by about 8 pounds.

Ever since I semi-retired, I have had high blood pressure so I checked it today after the hardest day of work I did in the last year and it was completely normal. In some people, exercise is the best relief for high blood pressure.

These blazing hot days are good for one thing though. If you need to apply herbicide, do it in the sweltering heat and the plants start dying almost immediately. You don't have to wait two weeks for them to start turning brown.
