Hot temps, don't know how southerners do it

Forecast today is 105 with the heat index at 110 or more. Get your work done early.

My thermometer verified that. It got up to 105.6 yesterday at about 3:30 pm. The breeze that was blowing felt like a blast-furnace. I think it'll likely get worse before it gets better.:(

Talk on the local news channel is that El Nina is on the way and when it happens, summer will come to an end real quickly. I don't know why I watch the weather, because they are wrong about half the time, but I still keep watching it.

Temps were supposed to be around 102 yesterday and about that all this week with a small chance of thunder storms just about every day. With the humidity and heat index, it's supposed to feel about ten degrees warmer. I put in 11.5 hours trying to finish off a deck that I built for a client, but called it a day with two more ceiling fans to install and some repairs on the inside of the house that they've added on to the job.

On Wednesday I bought a scale. I'm gaining weight, but didnt realize how much until I saw that I weighed 245 pounds. After a full day out in the sun, I was down to 137, or an 8 pound loss in weight. I have a 2 gallon water jug that I drink close to 1 1/2 gallons of a day. I figure that I drink about ten pounds worth of water, but still lost an additional 8 pounds for a total loss of water weight of 18 pounds in one day.

Yesterday I weighed myself again before and after the job for a loss of five pounds. I was 240 in the morning and 235 when I got home while drinking about the same amount of water.

Maybe if the heat lasts all summer, I'll melt down to 200 pounds on my new diet!!!! LOL

Eddie, that heat is affecting your math or typing skills. If you were down to 137, that's 108 lb loss. My guess is that it's the typing skills that got you on that one.;)

I was sitting here laughing about those numbers before I saw your post, Jim. I think our temperature only got to 103 yesterday, but unfortunately, I had to get out in it about 3:30 to go to Ft. Worth. I made a big pot of Cajun Shrimp Stew yesterday to take over there for our daughter and son-in-law. Our son-in-law, who retired from the Navy a little over a year ago, had day surgery on one foot yesterday, is going to be on crutches for at least 3 months, and they didn't get home from the surgery center until nearly 5 p.m., so at least they didn't have to cook or send out for dinner last night.

Today, our forecast is for 103 again and I'm already wringing wet, just from mowing the yard.

Eddie...water weighs around 8 pounds a gallon. So that's a lot of water you are sweating, and excreting. You need to keep the salt level up when losing that amount of water from your body.

The people in the Middle East wear all those long shawls with headgear in the hot desert environment. There must be something to that we don't know about.

Your really gonna make my head explode if I have to decide which I'm worse at, typing or math? :D

As much as I'd like to be thin, 137 would be well past rediculous. That's almost what my wife weighs!!!

Whether it is your typing or math... I still got a chucle out of it... I was thinking that you must have lost a lot more than just water on that tractor... I know it is hot but that is a little crazy!!

:p

Its called single digit dew points and humidity.

You can make jerky in a couple hours, work outside all day and never see a drop of sweat, just a salt mark or two. Drink three gallons of water and never urinate. Evaporative cooling at its finest.

Have fun

Eddie, apart from the math, I know exactly how you feel. It's not a lot of fun at this time of year, is it? Just as a matter of interest, I weighed 180 pounds before I went to work today. After working on the yard sprinklers all day, digging some up, cleaning filters and replacing others, I finished, got out of the shower and stepped on the scales, weighed 174. And that's after drinking a gallon of water and 4 diet sodas, and 2 beers. I'm real careful about working in this heat. I tend to work for a couple of hours and then take a 30 minute "cool-off" break but even so it looks as if my liquid intake was still almost a gallon low.

Be careful friend. This heat is a killer.
