Deer are getting to be a pain

T. Are you one of the selfish bowhunters who wants to keep crossbows out of "your" season?

Yes, because 9 out of ten times, the guy that picks up a crossbow to hunt in archery season doesn't take the time to understand how to hunt with a arrow and thinks he can take 100 yard shots with it, or else doesn't know where to place an arrow, or how to match his arrow shafts, or how to keep broadheads sharp, etc....

Look at the states that legalized crossbows during archery season, their hunting success numbers didn't improve at all. I lived in Alabama when they legalized crossbows for archery season there, and I really didn't care that much that it happened; I just lamented the fact that there would be a bunch of unprepared hunters out wounding deer. Having to draw a bow back and show some proficiency tends to weed out the beginners who don't have a commitment to the sport, whereas gunhunters-turned-crossbow archers can show an immediate accuracy level that deceives them into believing that they can use it like a gun without preparing and practicing with their equipment and understanding the limitations of 300 FPS trajectory.

Whatever my personal opinion on crossbows is, we don't get to vote on it during the general state election now do we??? The game and parks division makes the determination. So it doesn't really matter what my opinion is. Though I bet if there was a general vote, it may not come out as a clear cut winner in either direction....

Me and my wife both bow hunt, and i really enjoy it... I like it better than gun season.

Last year i killed 3 does with a bow... You can go back and buy a bonus doe tags.

In Kentucky, bow season starts in September and stays in until January.... I have been trying to kill a large buck for 3 years now.... It has rubbed a large cedarpine every year.

That buck will stay on my property at night, and then leave during the day.... Last year i was walking beside the deer path & found a shed from the last year... Its a chocolate rack and is very large. :D

The only times that I've seen it during the day it was chasing a doe... maybe this year I'll kill it.....(or my wife might also kill it):D

Impossible...You can't kill a doe with a bow. Wolc says so.

To the OP,

One more method to get rid of the deer that I thought of.

Get rid of all your trees and bushes...All of them, leave nothing but crops and gravel roads, kinda like some areas of the midwest I'm seeing these days.

With irrigation, there's no need for trees and backlot forests to maintain soil moisture, so get rid of them.

Get rid of the cover, the deer will migrate to other areas where they feel more safe and can survive the orange army come fall.

The only problem with that is the land owner is a Lawyer from Chicago who could care less about my crops. He bought the land as a weekend getaway and a place to Deer hunt. The problem with that is he will never thin them out enough hunting them by himself.

Well "Wolc" can come on down and let me teach him how to use a bow.

Or i can let my wife show him how to use one. :D ....She kills a buck and a couple doe's every year.

Well theres your problem right there. Just like I said, city deer hunters buy up the leases/lands, and maintain a high deer population either intentionally or by nature of limited access.

I would reconsider ever leasing that land again or seriously discount what you'll pay to plant it. Tell all the neighbors about the crop damage and mr lawyer is gonna have a hard time finding someone to plant his "foodplot" for him and cover his taxes/mortgage.
