John Deere Noise Canceling Headphones

I've just been using my Stihl hearing protectors and using the I-pod headphones (actually a Sony Walkman phone). It works great and the headphones give you a little extra noise suppression.

Now that's funny, most common complaint about JD is having to "bleed the green" to get one!

Much like a freind's saying that the HD in Harley Davidson stands for "hundred dollars" 'cause that's the least any part costs. :D MikeD74T

Mike,

The way you put it gave me a nice laugh too! :)

I have had mine for about a year and love them. Sorry to hear they are no longer making them. Thanks for the tip on the Able Planet ones though. If mine ever go down I will get a set of these. The able planet look VERY similar in design to my JD branded headphones (although the JD one are supposed to be tuned to equipment noise more than jet aircraft). I haven't taken the time to trace it down but I wonder if they are from the same company?

JD came through for me today and refunded my purchase price. I used it to purchase a Still model. Not noise-canceling, but highly recommended with more metal in the stress areas. :)

you shoudn't listen to music while using the tractor. it is very unsafe. with hearing protection, you should still be able to hear the engine noise somewhat. you can tell much from the noises the tractor and impliments make while in use. if you can hear something break and stop using the equipment before you do real damage to yourself and the tractor, you'll be better off. there is a place to eat, drink, talk on the phone, watch tv, and listen to music, but it's not while using the tractor. do you drive a minivan?

In my experience with the JD head phones you can still hear the engine and implement sounds - even with music playing (unless you are blasting the music)..

I'm not saying one shouldn't listen to music while operating a tractor, but it makes me nervous. I feel a lot more secure listening to talk radio, because it's much easier to hear little sounds that mean something may be going wrong. It makes the time go a lot faster too.

Another vote for the peltor 22 work tunes...excellent hearing protection and you can listen to the radio without noise blasting in your ears.

As far as safety make your own risk assessment and go from there. There are those well meaning regulators that wont be happy until we all have to sit down to pee ...for our own safety of course...

...and I am not with them.

I always use ear protectors using equipment...but IMHO are you sure it's the safest way to work with your tunes on potentially dangerous equipment....one more way of tuning out of what you're doing....so many of us are tuning ourselves out of attention (ie. multitasking while driving, etc)....personally I like to focus on the sound of what's happening around me w/o the insult of the loud equipment noise....just be careful while you're bobbing you head and working all that machinery good luck bb

For those of you interested...

ProTravelGear.com has 2010 versions of these in stock. I started looking for them after reading these posts from two years ago.

Finally found the makers of Plane Quiet and when I contacted the folks they said they just got a brand new shipment of these in.

I just ordered this afternoon... will let you know how they work when I receive them.

P.S. the JD branded ones are not on their website yet since they just received them from the manufacturer.
