Unless you know you will need a BH, I'd save the $$$ you can always add it later... In 2 years I have needed one twice and got away with the bucket for the first job and rented for the second job...

Thats alot of implement to be leaving on all the time , or sucking up storage space unless you know you'll be using it....

I totally agree that it is a lot to spend and store if you're not going to use it. I just find it very surprising that you've used yours so rarely. It's handy for more than just digging, like as a mini crane, a hornets' nest raker, a loaded trailer mounting assistant, etc.

I agree with Firefighter Kubota, in the seven years I have owned Kubotas, I haven't really needed one either. Yeah, it may have been "handy" a couple of times, but not enough to justify the cost. If you need one, buy it and if you don't...

I'm sure if I had one I would use it more but there were onlt 2 jobs that REALLY needed it... Glad I have the 5-6 G's in my pocket...

It is good, sound advice then. I use mine very frequently (mostly for its intended purpose), but I suppose if you don't have much digging to do, it is an unnecessary expense. When I finish my 10 year plan of my outdoor projects (of which I am in year 6 and am 5 years behind), perhaps I will find that I do not have much use for a backhoe anymore.

Some people just don't have no imagination when it comes to a BH so naturally they don't see a need for it.

Some people just don't have no imagination so I guess they dont see a need for 3 similiar tractors either....

In 6 years and 9 Kubotas I've never added the Backhoe. I might would have used it a couple of times but so far a posthole digger ($600) and the FEL has done what I've needed. $4000 is a fair sum of money for occasional use.

If Mr. Brown had his way, Kubota would only make one tractor and sell everybody 3 each.

You guys are so shy with your opinions....NOT

I am amazed that a bx might weigh over a ton. I thinka 1750 if they even make it any longer might suffice.

I appreciate it the input, really I do. The info is great.

I have looked at Kubota because of the reliability and the things several of you mentioned about the differences between JD and Kubota.

One question: Why so many Kubotas for sale used and hardly any John Deeres?

On first glance you'd think people get rid of Kubotas and keep JD's?

I agree on comments regarding backhoe. I had no real plans for the backhoe and thought uses would just pop up now that I had one. But they just didn't. Used it once in almost 2 years. It's just a waste if you don't use it enough. I used to rent a stump grinder for stumps. The job I did with the BH was a pretty small stump (seems the most popular use for the backhoes on this forum). What a freaken mess and a lot of work. Stump grinder is better for the job IMHO (unless your gonna farm it or dig a foundation or something). Lot of strain on the backhoe too.

And for some the non digging tricks you can do with your backhoe many of them you can do with the FEL too (e.g. a crane etc.).

For what it's worth, I have a John Deere 2305 as well as my BX2660 and I much prefer the Kubota.
Not knocking the JD mind you, I just prefer the BX for my use.
So then you basicly have 2 tractors alike as far as type /class of tractor.
You could have 2 JD 2305s or 2 Kubota BX2660s and still be in the same boat.

I have two primary locations which I need these types of tractors. On the one where I keep the John Deere, my son and grandson also use it and they also use a JD 425, so I didn't want another JD in a pond when someone got confused. I also got the JD before I sold my BX2200 and kind of wanted to check the JD out anyway. Using the JD convinced me that I really preferred the Kubota, so I then bought the BX2660. Since my wife retired and started using my BX2660 so much, I may have to buy another one; wonder how a New Holland would do...
So this proves that It's perfectaly normal for a person to own 2 Kubota BX1500 tractors RIGHT !

2*One question: Why so many Kubotas for sale used and hardly any John Deeres?

2*Easy. The more products sold the more available in the market.
1*Things ain't how they look.
How do we know that Kubota was replaced with something other than another Kubota.

Using your logic I could say judging from JDs meger trade in volume JD sure isn't selling many new tractors.
and I could state man o man Kubota is really selling a ton of new tractors ;just look at all those used kubotas thet have been traded in.

Are you talking about a B model Kubota here or what L Brown? Seems many of us could say that to you alot when you have an extremely strong opinion about something you don't own or have never operated.

I'm partial because I have one and I love it!

I have 6 acres and it works perfect for me. You have just over 3 acres, and I think it would be nice for you too! Just my opinion, JMO.

But, mostly because I have one and I love it!:D

A BH for either a B or a BX.

Do us all a favor and get rid of the %$#*&%$@ smiley faces!!

And is it neccessary to use up a 1/2 to a whole page for each posting?

I think we are in agreement here...maybe I need to start a new thread on this one!!

Sorry to stray from the point guys....

RE: BH
It also depends on what your tractor means to you.
I think the BH is a waste of my time and money. I've only had it for a couple of months and other than "playing with it" only used it for two very small jobs and one stump.
It is especially a waste of my time because I like getting up there and digging and filling in holes, I've probably spent three hours just "playing with it".
I feel like a kid in a sandbox.

My tractor is primarily a toy at this point in time.
My BH makes it a trophy toy. A Transformer.
I just love reaching out an picking up boulders that weight twice what I do and moving them around. A full bucket of soil and roots is also fun. I've got a stump I like to play with:)

I've a lot of ditches and stumps to dig in the future, I hope it's still as much fun then.
