Ive gotten this ford 2600 1975,ish tractor from my father inlaw. I know now it is a deisel powered tractor, it has 2 wires on the gear box tunnel. I am assuming they are for the glow plug switch. That is just a guess, maybe it did not have a switch for that. But anyway here is a pic of the wires, and the tractor. Thanks in advance for any help, as I am tractor illiterate.

It could be several things. First use a volt meter and see if there is any voltage on it. Turn the ign switch on and see if there is any voltage. Turn ign switch off, and use the ohm meter to see if there is continuity. If you have continuity in neutral, and not while in gear, then it is what it is. Might even be for a reverse warning light. Maybe a high range or low range indicator. Transmission temp. Nitro injection pump switch. :D:D

Actually.. pic #1 unquestionably nails it for a ford trans cover... it's a SN switch..

under that cowl there will be 2 wires but connector-ed together so the solenoid pops when the key turns...

Thanks to all for the help. I will do the continuity test for sure. My big question now is will it fire and run with the wires connected , and or un connected if it is the neutral safety switch wires? I see now what you mean by no glow plugs in the tranny, as that is the top cover going into the tranny.

If someone cut those wires, then they may have bypassed the feature that the wire/switch provided.

I would get on the Internet and track down a wiring schematic for your tractor.

If it is a neutral switch, then it may start or not start depending on what someone did to the wiring. If it only powered a light, it would not affect starting.

You really should find out what the purpose of the wire/switch.

If you get a chance, take off the cover plate and see what is in there.

According to NH Parts, that is a Safety Starter Switch, Item Number 55. It is connected to the Neutral Start Switch inside the tranny.
