Is the exhaust functional? I thought I had really done something when I put a chrome tip on mine. I just read back a few posts and saw your mulching kit. I went another route and put the mulching blades only. They have teeth pointing up that mulch. They do a really good job. The grass comes out so fine it doesn't clump up as bad.

I need to save this site to refer to my friends when they give me a hard time about how I keep my machinery. You would take some heat off me.

The exhaust will be my next project. Hoping to start it in a week or two. I got all the parts I need to do it now but don't have it all in my little brain how I'm going to do it but I don't dwell on those things much. Most of it will come to me as I get going at it. I just hope I don't disappoint you :D I will be adding a stack. It won't be going through the hood or up the side of the cab. Just promise you won't laugh :D

I get my paint mixed by the gallon at a specialty paint shop in the city. They match it perfectly.

Some of my logo's I air brushed. In the case of the advertising stuff there done by a very good friend of mine. I design them and he does them as a digital print and then puts them on vinyl for me. He is very good at what he does in my opinion. Attached is a photo of a lighted sign he did for me that's on our main repair shop. The second picture is the sign that hangs in the shop where I keep our collection.

Did you loose the full three fingers?

1)About the exhaust...I'll just have to wait & see, because i can't figure it out if it won't be coming through the hood, or up by the cab... But I'm sure it will look great!

2) You said: just promise you won't laugh. :D:D:D :p I'm laughing because you said that. :D

They really do a great job matching the paint.. The signs are really nice!!....What else do you have hiding from us.:D

They also do a great job airbrushing.

I also liked how you did the exhaust on the new zero.... It makes it look mean. :D

About my fingers.

No i didn't loose my fingers.... But i lost my nice fingernails. :D... One finger was broke.

That was the first time i had ever used a pipe bender like that... It just happened so quick & it was a good thing that i stopped it, or i would have lost my fingers... I was holding the pipe in the wrong place.... and i learned not to try & bend a small length of pipe again.

Thanks for all the pics. & info!

So true Matt. It's not unusual to see me working 80+ hours per week. I've done that for a long time so having the tools to do the job right makes it all a little easier. Wouldn't it be nice though if some of us did get the opportunity to work with the Discovery Channel and pick the tooling we only dream of having. Oh the things we could build

Somehow Paul I suspect an 80-hour week for you is pleasant compared to a monotonous 40-hour week in a cube farm. Although I'm sure you've had your share of difficult customers; I still have a hunch you enjoy what you do.

The only problem with Discovery Channel type shows is they tend to focus on interpersonal conflicts as witnessed on the now defunct American Hot Rod, American Chopper, and Doing DaVinci than they do the project they are building. Discovery et al also likes to impose ridiculous deadlines to force these projects to be slapped together (e.g. Monster Garage, Doing DaVinci, Prototype This, etc). If the Mythbusters quarrel amongst themselves, they keep it off camera and focus on the project while having fun doing so.

:D No the exhaust is just for show. Although I really like the Zero I'm not putting to much into customizing. Mostly peal and stick stuff to make it look a little different. I tried the new mulching system on mine yesterday for about five minutes and it worked well then I had to get back in the shop. I'm really fussy about looking after my stuff and I've always been like it. Unless we have an endless amount of money which most of us don't it pays to look after the stuff and make it last. I'm glad to take some heat off of you but it shows you look after your stuff as well which is good :D

Man I'm glad you didn't loose the fingers. Not a good experience as it was I'm sure. Glad you liked the exhaust. I only put them on there for a bit of fun. I do most of my own air brushing. I started doing it about 10 years ago but I only do basic stuff. I'm about as far from being an artist as one can get:D I knew you would laugh one way or the other :D I just had to attach a picture of the stuff I've gathered up to do the exhaust. Not all of it will be used but I wanted it on hand just in case. There's also some metal not in the picture to do the fabrication work. This is just a little teaser :D

Matt you though me for a loop. I had to figure out what a Cube Farm was :D Hey over here where not real complicated people you know:D I know what you mean about those shows. Always the same thing, deadline, fighting and the like. No substance to them anymore. OCC is gone completely down the drain in my opinion. To be honest I don't even watch it anymore. Why don't they take a few regular guys and do a show or two on there skills and craft's along and see where it ends up. I think it could work. It don't need to be a big production or a high budget show. Just regular guys doing good work like yourself and a few others I've seen on here. I think that would be

I didn't know you did airbrushing... My 16 year old daughter can draw excellent, and she's wanting to learn how to airbrush.... I bought her a small one to start out with so she can start learning... You may see my JD with flames someday. :D

No you didn't want the parts on hand.... You just threw them in the picture so we will be ... :D

Here is the initials how the exhaust will be installed...(E.U.N.T.T.)... When you get it done i will tell you what that means. :D

Just quit being a teaser & "Git er done" :p

If you hadn't told anyone that the exhaust on the new zero was just for show, we would had believed that it was functional.

I did 24-years in a cube farm and bullpen while in the engineering racket, and that environment gets old after awhile.

I agree that OCC has quit being innovative with their products. They used to have two shows to build a bike, now it's half a show or maybe one show. They hardly custom fabricate stuff anymore; instead they go grab a tank, cut it in half and change the width. Whoopee-ding to quote Archie Bunker, especially when they used to have their sheet metal guy fab up some pretty complex tanks.

Around 2005+/- TLC had a show called 'Rides' that focused on car builders, and other aspects of the car culture; but without the melodrama of the aforementioned shows. Unfortunately it only lasted a year or two; but I did see an Illinois guy named Troy Trepanier and his Rad Rides shop crank out some clean hot rods, and a San Francisco bay area restoration and fabrication shop where they highlighted this craftsman creating 30's style balloon fenders on the English Wheel. This was my kind of show; but I'm in the minority as usual since it appears that most of the viewing public wants the back biting nonsense. I dealt with enough of that in the cube farm, I really don't enjoy watching it.

That was done around here years ago. Called "New Yankee Workshop", Norm Abrams. It was a nice mellow woodworking show but w a limited audience. Not enough violence for the newer generations!

How is she feeling by now?
Has she had all the test and how did they turn out ?

Man I had all this typed up and lost it when I timed out

OK I'll try it again. I've been airbrushing for years. When I started doing it I would use food coloring and cardboard to practice on. Doing it that way there were no fumes and easy cleanup. Worked for me. I do all my own painting. Mostly base/clear paint. Good factory fresh finish.

I actually have some of the exhaust fab work done. Just some small parts that needed to be machined. This is a long weekend for me so I'm hoping to get a good run at it. I'll have to if I want to find out what ...(E.U.N.T.T.)... means :D Someone was in the shop yesterday and thought the exhaust was real. I couldn't tell a lie. It's just for looks. ;)

When I worked for GM I worked as a tech on the floor for years. I was happy doing that until I had to fill in for a service manager for a few months and I guess I made them more money so they wouldn't give me my old job back and wanted me to remain a manager. I would go to work with a briefcase and suit on and hated every minute of it so I just got up one morning, went to there shop and threw the keys on the desk and walked out. That's 15 years ago and I never went back in there building. Sure felt good doing it at the time but I was also terrified wondering if I could make it on my own. So far so good ;)

Some of the TV shows you mentioned I never heard about but the ones I've seen were all the same. I would watch Paul Sr and Pauly arguing and insulting each other and say to myself "What caring family talks to eachother that way. It was almost embarrassing to watch it at times.
When Vinny lest OCC that was the beginning of the end. I liked the way he worked. The last time I watched it Pauly was spending more time trying to start some kind of store that had noting to do with building anything so I turned it off and never looked at it again.

Man he was something else. A "REAL" craftsman. When you watched him working you knew he was doing it right. Sad to hear it didn't last.
