Do you need a tandem axle with brakes? No. If you are purchasing a trailer, however, that is exactly what you should buy. You'll have a margin of comfort, and the larger trailer will prove useful for many other uses. *You have the tow rig to handle quite a trailer!

Will
IS it at least a 3/4 ton?

Good grief!!! He's not pulling a D9...Any run of the mill half-ton would be plenty. I've pulled 8000# travel trailers with a Chevy 1500 SB 4x4. No problems at all.

Last I knew they didn't put Cummins in the 1/2 ton, not that it matters.

Correct, only 3/4 or 1 tons have the CTD. I have the truck for pulling my camper, but realize it is more than needed for the tractor. However, I do know that even pulling 2000 lbs. could be trouble if you had a tough breaking situation even with heavy duty 3/4 ton rotors and brakes. I just wasn't sure how many folks were pulling trailers with single axles and no brakes without issues.

Thanks for all the input.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem on a s/a without brakes, you have plenty of truck to stop it.

Sheesh, maybe we can get back on topic.

I would say a 7K trailer is more than enough even if it only has one axle braking. If you can swing the cost for another axle with braking, it will give you some more reasurrance.
