Time will tell...

The sales guy reponded that they'd like to come pick up my tractor next Tuesday and return it Thursday all fixed. They did not offer to replace it, and he said he went out to the lot to look at all the other BX tractors they have and said they all seem to have the same rust in the same spots.

We emailed back and forth multiple times, I even pointed him to this thread which I know he read.

He said they're committed to making me a satisfied customer but did not say whether they planned to replace or repaint parts that were rusted.

We'll see, I'll keep everyone in the loop and let you know how it turns out.
Thanks everyone for your help and support,
-Jonathan

Paint on top of a bunch of rusty parts will not make it all better (IMO). Usually the paint pops off after awhile and ooops, there's the rusty parts again!

I hope you get another tractor.

best of luck!

I know a fellow that bought one of the other orange tractors and after he got it home, he noticed the bolts that hold the fender to the axle were rusted. He then climbed up and looked at the top of the cab and it was noticeably faded. He contacted the dealer and they brought him out another new tractor, don't know what they did with the rusted faded one.

Last winter my dealer had four 2660 BX tractor sitting in there back lot. They had a sleet storm and all there new machinery covered with ice. some of it looking worse than my 5 year old tractor. I got my 2360 from them in april and told them if it looked anything like the ones they had sitting in back it won't be coming off there trailer. It must have worked becouse mine looked real nice. Make them satisfy you or get Kubota to help.

Here's the update:

This past weekend, the tractor developed a leak on its mid-mount PTO. In the first seven hours it leaked out it's hydraulic fluid to just below the dipstick.

The dealership was scheduled to pickup the tractor yesterday to fix the rust issues. Frustrated with what I feel is quickly becoming a lemon, I formally requested that they pick up this particular tractor and return it with a new unit, with out the rust or leak problems, or cancel the sale. I said I was open to having a joint meeting with the regional Kubota rep. to go over the tractor and discuss the situation.

The dealership has stated about the rust and leak:
"In this industry this is minor and correctable.
As far as the leak it occasionally happens and if it does it is usually
within the first 10 hours of use.
Will let you know what Kubota says."

I haven't been contacted directly by Kubota nor do I have the regional reps. information, so I'm in a wait and see pattern.

So for those curious, that's where the situation stands.

I paid what I would call a "fair deal...."
I got it below MSRP, but not a steal according to some of the pricing that I researched here. It was about $150.00 more than Barlows could deliver it, but I thought, and am hoping that by making a purchase like this through the local dealer I have some leverage should I need anything...

The clock had 0.5 hours on it when I started it up at their place when they showed me how to take the bucket on and off as well as change out the MMM to the snowblower...

<snip>

Everyone else except tommyz seems to ignore this - The clock had 0.5 hours on it when I started it up at their place when they showed me how to take the bucket on and off as well as change out the MMM to the snowblower...

So you saw it before, started it, took the bucket on and off, changed MMM to the snowblower and did not see the rust?

Did it develop over night?

I am assuming the first time you saw the tractor was at time of delivery.
but it seems you had a chance to inspect it before purchase.

I disagree with tommy
I'm almost ready to buy a new tractor and if I missed all of that at the dealer and they delivered it like this, yes, it would be hard to do, but I'd demand a new one.
.You should look for and document damage on equipment BEFORE you buy it.

You don't tell us the price you paid but $150 over Barlow's is a dynamite deal. (Especially w/ delivery of over an hour). Most of your pictures look like it overwintered outside and had a couple of dings.

As far as fluid goes you say it leaked. Did you make sure you checked it with all the hydraulics in the same position? I can get a quart of difference depending on how I've got things set.

You had three days to give it back and now your screwed. If I see rust on a tractor on the lot, I know the dealer is not worth talking too because people have figured them out. They don't sale a lot of tractors and it shows.

You purchased the tractor you looked at and drove? You agreed on a price for that tractor, with a new tractor warranty? Thus dealer needs to fix the leak and you should enjoy your new tractor and quit gettin all worried because of a little surface rust, you want it perfect you should have told the deally you were **** and wanted a perfect new show tractor with no concern with price. If you had your tractor trucked across America to save $150 you would be on here complaining that it had bugs on it??? Drive it in to a pile of rocks and feel good about have something other than a shovel.

Sorry to rant but its A TRACTOR..

No need to rant at me, there's fault on both sides.

I should have been more particular before taking ownership, they should have either prepped the tractor better or disclosed the rust prior to sale.

I posted looking for honest feedback from the larger group to see if I was being over particular, or if this was normal.

I'd say the overall mix is 60/40 with most postings and PM's saying that this isn't normal for a brand new tractor.

Yes, I should have done a better job inspecting it, no doubt, but the rust is not in obvious spots, except for the roll bar, with the safety triangle mostly covered.

I asked the sales person before buying if they had a BX 2660 available to try out. They did not, I'm assuming that the tractor wasn't prepped yet, and was still crated out back. So I never test drove this unit prior to purchase.

In my opinion the dealership should have done a better job disclosing to me the rust and that it's been sitting out through last winter. Better than that they should have fixed it prior to letting me see it. But in their defense, there's a bell curve of owners and some would never have an issue with this. Some like me plan on keeping it forever, so cancerous rust scares me.

The fluid leak is not a checking on level surface issue. It's litterally dripping on my garage floor, and by the time I'd mowed three times, and had seven hours on it, the rear fluid level went from full to below the dipstick. When I parked it so they could pick it up, it was even struggling to make the power steering work.

I do appreciate the feedback. I am much smarter for this experience, and will know what to expect and do better in the future.

Thanks everyone, I'll let you know what comes of it,
-Jonathan
