Small consolation, but you should be able to have your property assessment reduced ...proximity to the airport has reduced your property value

Have you considered flying model airplane. I wonder what the altitude limit is for flying model planes. What if you put warning balloons on the 4 corners of your property, and a notice sent daily to all the the neighbors that you will be flying in your air space whenever. He doesn't give you any warning , does he?.

NOTICE TO NEIGHBORS

Dear Sir, I will be flying my planes to day and any day I choose to do so. If the balloons are up, stay clear.

The largest model is a B-52 with a 10 ft wing span, it has 4 jet engines and flies at 150 knots. I will try and stay off your runway, but perhaps I can use it for emergency landings.

Your kidding right? IF this guy is legal and you start pulling stunts like this (ie: flying RC airplanes near an airport, or balloons to block their flightpath) youll be the one dealing with the FAA. They take this stuff right serious.

Same as if hes deliberately buzzing his neighbours. If this turns out true theyll be just as serious with him.

Aviation regulators have no sense of Ha-Ha.

Personally, i think the OP may be over reacting a bit. Things always look worse when its your property. A person indirectly involved usually sees things differently. Post up some video or locations and maybe id have a different view.

To the poster who offered to call the pilot...In what capacity would you call him? I like the idea if you can confront him with a title or something.

Capacity? Fellow Pilot. I wouldn't be interested in getting into a he said / she said deal or being confrontational.

If he has an FAA registered air field, I would imagine the landing area has a specific directional component. In addition, they usually do some analysis on runway impact areas. Been a while since I looked at this so don't remember the distances, but seems like about 5 miles.

No, I am not kidding. Every one has the right to life, liberty, money, and justice for all, or something like that. It's probably not registered as an airport anyway. You could check and see if he is paying property tax on a runway. Should the the designed of his airport be described in the tax records.

You got this little angle on your shoulder, saying be nice, be nice, and the devil on the other shoulder saying, stick it to him, real good.

I say try it. While your at it why dont you get one of those laser pointers so you can "dazzle" the pilot like some other idiots have tried.

If the OP does try to interfere with an aircraft in flight, especially when approaching an airport, i can guarantee the pilot WILL call the FAA and they will come hand have a nice chat with him. While this might serve to get the FAA out, im willing to bet that the OP will come out on the losing end in both cases, and likely with a federal charge to boot if the interference is serious enough,

I got bored reading the whole thread, but it sure seems like the pilots who responded are arrogant jerks.

Are they all like that?

No, but the posts from pilots are legally correct. I have flown off of private and public strips(including airports with pretty tough noise restrictions). Most people have not idea of the true altitude of a aircraft over their house. There is nothing like have a noise compliant filed against you at a strict airport:( then having a radar log and controller prove that you where correct:D.

I would suggest that the op take a completely different course of action than anybody else has suggested. Ask discreetly around a local airport to see if the pilot has the rep of being unsafe or reckless. If he is known as being a "safe and good" pilot by other pilots in the area go to him and talk to him in a nice manner and ask for a ride and a ride for you kids and grandkids. Pilots generally love to give people rides, take a few pics of you house as you go over and keep an eye on the altimeter as he flies.
This could accomplish 2 things.
1. You can find out the exact and real height that he flies on approach.
2. Most importantly you can make a new friend and neighbor. BTW: Friends usually don't go out of their way to aggravate friends.;)

Several of my neighbors have framed prints of their houses on their walls taken while I was flying(the kind you pay $$ to get) that I gave them as Christmas gifts one year. Up until that time most did not know I was a pilot and none had any idea that a plane was flying low enough(it was actually 500' or so away) to take that nice a pic of their house.

BTW: It still would not hurt to check the records though and make sure the strip was legit.

I would politely disagree with you--Your statement above does not take into account those of us who have responded politely to the situation. I for one reserve judgment on the case until there are more facts that have not yet been provided--type of plane, length of strip, type of strip, obstacles in the normal flight path or normal approach pattern, location of strip (so that we could evaluate the situation by means of Google Earth and airport charts), etc.

Therefore, I disagree that "the pilots who responded are arrogant jerks," some of us have responded who should not be tarred with that brush. Thank you. Please remember that we have heard only one side of the story--unless as has been suggested, one of the responders is the pilot. I for one, would like to have more facts so that I could form an informed opinion in the matter.

Really? There's "nothing like" it? That doesn't seem all that obtrusive, to me. Merely, annoying, at worst.

If people are bothered by the noise you create, it's a public nuisance. That's not to say that it's not lawful, but it is annoying.

So, you really don't mind being annoying, but you hate to be annoyed?

I did say "it seems", and that I wasn't able to muck through all of the responses, so it's likely that I missed yours, Mike.

I agree with you that there isn't enough information to make an assessment, but we're also not likely to get all that information, or the other side of the story, either.

As it stands, the description we have makes this particular pilot appear to be a pretty difficult character, at best, and those that have attacked the OP have created a declining opinion of private pilots, for me.

Sure, you may have authorization to fly over a house at 75 feet, or 500 feet (I think most of us can tell the difference between those two extremes), but that doesn't mean you should, or that it's neighborly to do so.
