Another thing in Texas is to paint the top of your fence posts purple. That increases your "dwelling" to the edge of your property. Also it marks your property and is easier to get the the trespasser on an "agricultural trespassing" charge. Unfortunately I know that one from personal experience (it wasn't intentional).

Yup, this is true.... One can use the purple paint on anything to mark your property... fence posts, rocks, trees, etc... Paint stores in Texas know what shade of purple to use... It's a little known law that is quite effective.

We put in some farm gates with no tresspassing signs, and then built rock walls along the sides to keep anyone from driving in. We where having some people who where "confused" about where the road went. needless to say this keeps them on the road and not off roading through our property.
just as a btw, i was helping a buddy do some drywalling. Those plastic strips of drywall screws would really do a number if they, by accident, fell into an atv trail.
the newer ir cameras are much much nicer now then they were a couple of years ago. I wonder if you could buy a small ir light to mark or brighten up your fence area and then get a better picture.
My favorite no tresspassing sign said.
Tresspassers will be violated.

I solved that problem a year ago.

I put up 4 signs.

Report any loose snakes to office!

ACZLAN, I appreciate your going to the trouble to find that statute... It's a sort of strange law that was put in force a number of years ago, yet most Texans are unaware of it... again, thank you kindly...

How effective can a 1" x 8" purple line every 1000' in open land be if the law is little known? Especially since the law does not describe the specific shade of purple . Something is contradictory here  , unless it's just all Texans are repulsed by purple? :D . Anyhow, can't agrue with something that works. MikeD74T

I think one thing a person has to remember when reading about what others suggest in the line of self/property defense is that each part of the world we live in and each part of the states that I live in are different. What may be legal in Texas may not float in Califonia or New York. I live in Florida and the laws are reasonably in favor of protecting your home, but using excess force to protect a vacant piece of property might get you into a legal hassle.
Read and enjoy these posts, but before you take another member's suggestion and put it into action, consider the legal aspects of your location. After considering your legal ramifications, call your congressman and see if you can have them get off their tails and make it legal for a man to protect his own.

What it all boils down to is that it is the law and they say ignorance of the law is no excuse.
I had never heard of it myself until I renewed my CCP. Now my land has the purple lines around it. I haven't had any trespassers.

I would have expected something that obscure to lead to more successful prosecutions but not be much of a deterant for initial trespass. Actually I find it quite amazing that a solution that inexpensive & simple really does work. I suspect that hunting regulations at least make mention of the law for it to be that widely observed. Of course there's another possibility, postings for radioactive areas are also purple (magenta) !!! MikeD74T
