I recentley bought a 2005 TC40D. I have a problem with the tractor wanting to move foward after releasing the pedal. I've read some of the previous posts about this problem and have done everything that was recommended. The roller is dead center in between the two cams. The linkage and fittings have all been lubricated. I don't know where to turn next. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks Sig

Sigjig, welcome to TBN and the NH forum. I hope you come back often to visit and to post. I'm sure you will like your TC40D.:)

Now, let's take care of your nagging little problem. The adjustment you need is very simple and easy to accomplish. It should be done with the rear wheels jacked up off the ground on jackstands, but you can do it by trial and error without jacking the tractor. Look at the attached diagram. Over on the left side is a large nut attached to an eccentric shaft, #19. Also there is a bolt marked #7. You must loosen the lockbolt #7 and then turn the big nut slightly to null out the transmission relative to your pedals. If you have the tractor jacked up and on stands, you can start it and adjust until the wheels stop turning. That will be the perfect position. If you do it without being jacked up, you can make the adjustment, but you will have to start the tractor and see if you've gone in the right direction and far enough or too far. That's all there is to getting the tranmission in sync with the pedals.:)

Oh yes. . .make sure if you have the tractor jacked up, that you also move the MFWD lever to 2WD. You want the rear tires to spin freely off the ground. Of course if you are in 4WD, the front wheels may pull you off the jackstands. Not good! Also, if you have the rear wheels off the ground, you can check for a perfect adjustment by revving the engine with the pedals at neutral so that you can see that there is no wheel movement even at high rpm. Good luck!

BTW: In your original post you mentioned that the cam is centered on the roller. What this adjustment does is adjust the position of the roller so the cam will come to center at a slightly different spot and that will null out the transmission.

Thanks Jinman, I saw that part yesterday while troubleshooting what I could, but wasn't sure what it's function was. I'll give it a try and let you know how it worked. Thanks again. Sig

Once again, a great description of the transmission adjustment by Jim.

One minor suggestion here that I like to add. It might be prudent to park the tractor facing open barn/garage door with the rear end jacked up, or better outside facing an open field. In a remote chance of tractor coming of the jack stand:eek: while adjusting then it will safely drive without hitting major obstruction such as rear wall of your barn.. Yikes:eek: Timing got to be just right trying to get on moving tractor as well:D

JC,

Welcome to TBN Blue, for all your blue related questions.:)

Wowwwww! It's a great feeling when you can suggest to someone how to fix something. It's even nicer when it works so quickly and they let you know about it. I am so pleased that tractor you just bought is fixed and you can enjoy it. Nice job! That made my day.:)
