Can anyone help me with this? I was cutting some overgrown land the other day and snagged a stump with my step (that also holds up the fuel tank). It pulled off one of the fuel lines and broke the step off. Well, got all that stuff fixed and now the fuel gauge reads full all the time. It does go back to empty when you turn the key off. I checked the wires from the sending unit back to the plug(just inside the fender). I can't tell anything is wrong. Any suggestions?
The fuel lines surround the fuel level sensor at the tank. The wiring diagram (in the operators manual) shows one wire from the fuel level sensor to the instrument cluster. There is a parellel circuit (wire) that goes from the key switch thru the battery to the instument cluster (and the fuel guage). With the key on, the circuit is complete and shows the fuel guage full. The only thing that would change that full indication is the fuel level sensor. I think you have an open circuit (bad connection or knicked wire) from the fuel level sensor to the instrument cluster. I hope this helps.
