I went to a differnt CNH dealer and they were great... new which shade of paint I needed based on the year. Very happy with the customer service. The are ordering parts and even no freight charges unlike the first dealer I went too. The first dealer ordered wrong parts, charged $10 freight and I'm banking a 20% restocking fee when I return the parts. It's great to find a good dealer!

Bob, I recentley bought a 2005 CNH and had a few rusty chips on the loader. I asked the dealer if the color was the same as Ford blue, he said it wasn't. I bought a spray can of NH blue fron the dealer and touched up the rusty spots after light sanding and primering, it looks great. The spray nozzle on the can had perfect wide pattern and the color match was right on the money.Sig

Make sure you have the serial number for your tractor; makes it a lot easier for your dealer to get you the correct paint.

My TN65 is a 2000; I believe that's the year they made a change-over.

hit a cnh dealer they have paint at the counter.. also.. tsc has valspar paints in oem tractor colors..

Do the valspar paints need a hardener? We painted the haywagon frame (see my "Haywagon Rebuild thread") a week or so back and the paint still feels soft and will scratch at the slightest provocation. The paint was valspar JD Green and Yellow from TSC

I got the manufacturers paint a CNH counter. I used the spray can and it dried very quickly and was a perfect match. There was a little color variation in some areas due to fading but not noticeable. If I recall it was around $8 for 12 oz can.

luster, scratch resistance, cure time and gloss are greatly enhanced by hardner. I always use the valspar hardner in their paints.

I also use naptha as a solvent for spraying, not mineral spirits. I've experienced dramatically longer cure times with non hardened, mineral spirits reduced paints. Painting in high humidity seems to extend the cure times as well.

with hardened paint, in 2 days it's setup enough to color-sand out runs and recoat with no issues..

No hardner or thinner in this paint, it was shaken up and brushed on. What would the effect of doing a topcoat with paint that had hardner in it? would it still be soft due to the soft paint underneath?

as thick as it is.. no wonder it hasn't cured. if it's been a week.. give it another. if it ain't cured by then.. somethings wrong.

Makes sense.

Even if brushing on.. I would have thinned some with mineral spirits.

Looking back I should have, but this is the first time I have used a paint that wasnt either a varnish/stain or waterbased, so I will now know better for next time.

What would the effect of doing a topcoat with paint that had hardner in it? would it still be soft due to the soft paint underneath?

The topcoat will most likely peel as the paints will expand and contract at different degrees.
