Sig Sauer P226 Pistol

Bird, you know what you want, are familiar with firearms and have lots of comments supporting the benefits of the P226. Am sure it's the right pistol for you.

That said, I just thought I'd let you know I love my Kel-Tec PF 9. I put high priority on in-pocket carry along with sufficient firepower, accuracy, reliability and warranty service. It is made in USA and very reasonably priced. For my needs and hands, it was best-of-breed when I was deciding on a CCW. You are likely familiar with it, but if not, as you look around it's worth a look. There are some on Gunbroker at the moment.

How'd that old saying go? The devil's in the details? Certainly there are a few restrictions here and there. I think it's human nature that we'd all like to be able to do whatever we want to do, even if we never do it. As I said, I've almost never carried a gun since retirement, but I like the idea of it being legal IF I ever want to carry one. So the restrictions that exist don't worry me a bit.

Not that I know you well, but with your history and your demeanor, I can't see you as a wild pistol waiving nut. A friend of mine is a U.S. Marshall and he told me that, in most cases, the people who get in trouble with firearms in areas with special restrictions, that have questionable legality, are generally those who are detained by the authorities for reckless use of their firearm or caught committing some other crime. I just don't see you falling into that category.

If a fellow wanted to buy a Sig Sauer P226 pistol, where would he find the best deal?

I assume the P226 is being used by your old department.

Try to find P226's that departments have been traded in to Sig. Sometimes the firearms companies make a deal to the departments that are too good to be refused.

Something like, trade all of your current side arms for a new model at no or little cost. The company then has these older weapons they have to sell off. Talk to the armorer(s) at your old department and see if they have a contact with Sig. Sig might be able to get you a P226 cheaper.

Is there a local police supply store? They might know of these deals and/or help find one.

It is a toss up for me as to what I like better, my 226s or my Browning Hi-Powers.

I did purchase one of my SIG 556s off of GunBroker and had it shipped to my local FFL who only charged me $20 for the transaction, that was a great deal too.

Maybe you or Joe, Sigarms, could clarify something. My Sig 226 is one I bought about 20 years ago, new, with 2 high cap mags and is clearly marked "Made in Germany". I don't know, but have been told, that some of the newer Sig 226 pistols are not of the same quality and are made somewhere other than Germany. Again, I don't know that to be true or not. However, if it is, I'd suggest Bird to look for a older NIB or LNIB Sig 226. They are certainly still available.

Like you stated, Dargo, mine were made in Germany by Sig Sauer also.

Don't know if the newer ones are made in the USA by Sig Arms.

Maybe someone will pop on here and give us the skinny. Since some of my five kids have started college, my days of really studying and heavy buying are pretty well over. I used to know about every new model, the differences, all the model numbers etc. I'm pretty lost now. Heck, it's sort of like cars. I used to know not only the make and model of a car, but also the year with just a quick glance. Now I gotta look and read the emblems to know what it is and don't have a clue as to the year.

A friend just called me back who is still big into collecting and he said "it depends". Some are made in Germany and some are made in the U.S. now. Yep, Dargo, when I started on the police department in 1964, after having worked in my Dad's service station and auto parts store, I could tell you the make and probably the year model of every car I saw; at least all those made in the previous 20 years. But, like you, I have to read the emblem on the hood or trunk now to know the make and still wouldn't know the year model of hardly anything on the road.
