Figurin rear axle ratio in Ford F150

Can anybody tell me how one can tell what the rear axle ratio would be for an '07 Ford pickup truck half ton?

You can get the axle code off of the sticker in the drivers door jamb, then call the parts dept at your local dealer, read them off the code, and they can tell you the ratio. Another way is to jack up the back of the truck, put the trans in neutral, mark the driveshaft with a peice of chalk, mark a tire with a peice of chalk on the inside sidewall, then rotate the driveshaft until the tire makes one comeplete turn, count how many times the driveshaft turned to make one comeplete tire revolution, then round that to the closest available gear ratio. For example, 3.5 driveshaft turns would be a 3.55 ratio, 3.75 would be a 3.73, slightly over 4 turns would be a 4.10 or 4.11 etc. etc.

Another way is to remove the diff cover, and count how many teeth are on the ring gear and how many are on the pinion gear, divide the ring gear tooth count[big number] by the pinion gear tooth count[small number] and this will give you your gear ratio.

Give me your axle code. It will be on you door jamb sticker. It will be a 2 digit code. If its numbers only it will be a standard diff usually. If its a letter followed by a number it will be a limited slip diff. I have a full listing of Ford diffs.

Example: Axle Code 31 would be a standard convention diff with 3.73gears while Axle Code C1 would be a Limited slip diff with 3.73 gears.

i haven't bought a new ford since 2001 but they used to put a tag on the axle cover, i've always seen them on the upper left side on one of the bolts. it should be the top number if i remember right.

That's what I was thinking too. Look for the tag on the diff cover.

If so then you have a 3.55 open differential.

Dmace is 100% correct. Its a 3.55 Conventional Diff.
