RTV 500 Top Speed enhancement?

A UTV is just that, designed for and typically purchased for work duties and I would think that 20 mph +/- would be adequate.

I agree. According to the GPS, my RTV 500 will go 24.5 mph on a level road. But we rarely use it that way. I purposely avoided faster vehicles. We have lots narrow, winding trails and a young granddaughter. I needed a narrow vehicle for the trails and one that I will not be afraid to let the kids drive. I can still use it to haul stuff and even drag logs out of areas I cannot get my tractor in.

I can have my peddle to the floor and it will 'downshift' going up a hill. If I start out from a stop on a hill, I do have to slowly push the peddle to floor and give trans time to react. If you just quickly floor it, it will bog.

If yours is still under warranty, I would ask the dealer to have a look at it.

It's under warranty, and has been back for this. Mine will not downshift unless I let up on the gas, which the dealer says is normal. I really find this hard to believe. 25MPH is plenty fast enough for me, just want constent power..Which I don't have.

Thats normal, all the RTV's are like that. Once you learn to drive it properly you'll find a whole new world of power... if you just mash the pedal to the floor it does not respond well.

I've been told that a hand throttle may help with what you want. I don't have one, but it is my understanding that a hand throttle will allow you to increase engine revs before you press on the go pedal. If that's the case, and that is what a hand throttle does, it may be what you want. Maybe someone who has a hand throttle can jump in and give you info based on actual experience.

I do feather the pedal, but I'm not finding that new world of power..Suggestions? What am I missing?

Did you verify the throttle cable adjustment as I suggested in a previous post?

Yes, I did...Thanks for the suggestion, but mine is properly adjusted. Good thought though.

The thottle is adjusted as you mentioned. But, I did the 50hr thing today and noticed that there is 1/4 pedal before anything happens...Is that the same with yours?

I had an RTV900 for several years. At less than 700 hrs. it had a major transaxle failure, $3500 worth. I traded it for an RTV500. I was not happy with the up hill performance. I also would have to let off the gas so it wouldn't shutter going up hill. I took it back to the dealer. They struggled with it for 6 full weeks. They had two Kubota represenatives work on it. They finally replaced the pressure block, not sure what that is. They told me the high pressure valve was not seating properly. It seems ok now. At least it climbs the hills, slowly, but it no longer shutters. The RTV900 ran a little faster on the hills, but it was much noisier than the 500. Overall the 500 handles better, it's quieter, shifts easier and doesn't stop so darn fast. Time will tell if this is a better machine. I have a kubota BX1500 tractor for 6 years and it has been bullet proof.

My property has some steep hills that have slow speed obstacles near the bottom. This prevents me from getting a "running start" at the hills. I am considering adding a spring loaded hand throttle that (when used) will allow me to take and hold the engine at full RPM without opening up the servo valve completely. My thought is that I can get the revs up and then only press down the peddle until I reach the desired speed or until the engine begins slow down.

The hand throttle would be attached directly to the throttle body lever, and would be in addition to the existing linkage.

Has anyone done anything like this?
