Confused About HST Fan Protection

/ Confused About HST Fan Protection #72
I just ordered the "NEW" longer fan protector from Toreku in Ayer Mass with the part number K2681-21212. They said about 10 days to to weeks. Cost was $41.91 including shiping to me.

With the old guard, there was a part number for just the guard, and a part number for the "kit" which was the guard and the mounting bolts. Was your dealer able to determine if this new part number is just a guard, or a kit.

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff I did not ask because I already had the bolts and washers from the shorter kit and besides washers, bolts, and nuts are easy to come by.

I agree with the statements that it looks like a good fan protector. Further, I agree that it is inadequate protection for the filter (if you ever challenge either.) I disagree with the air flow concerns. I don't see any on any of the designs in this entire thread. The air flow should be quite sufficient in all cases. Most times, designers will provide shrouds to guide the air for maximum fan efficiency if it is at all marginal.

If you (collectively/generically) think the air flow were that marginal, you would be better off hosing all the film, dust, dirt, etc. off of the pump housing directly behind the fan than worrying about it.

The transmission housing does most of the cooling for the transmission at large, but that specific area needs concentrated cooling. The reason is although some oil creeps out of that area, and must be topped up by the hydraulic pump, MOSTLY that oil runs in a tight little circle. The circle is out of the pump pistons into the motor pistons, out of the motor pistons into the pump pistons. There is some minor friction, but mostly, the heat is caused by leakage around the piston rings of both the pump and the motor. It is a beautiful setup, really.

Here's a thread after I had to replace the fan and that was five and a half years ago, I can't imagine an air flow problem either, lots of places for the air to flow through and the front is close enough to keep out the twigs and sticks.

Got a response today direct from Kubota

JeffH- Thanks for the info.

Used the part number that you provided at my dealer and we were able to verify the part and number. But....No stock and backordered. I put in order anyway. If and When I get it, I will update on this with pictures. I also intend to modify after initial installation for additional coverage.

Please share when you get it installed. I want to do something to my new BX2660 so I can venture away from the driveway and yard.

The HST fan issues and comments posted over the past months make me wonder if there is some mechanism available to Kubota owners to receive any sort of maintenance or recommendations directly from Kubota. I would never have known there were HST fan issues without Tractorbynet. It's a shame to not let owners know when there are shortcomings known by Kubota. Does anyone know if Kubota service updates are available to endusers ?

My dealer here in Ontario (Canada) says there is one for the BX25, for about $46 CDN (approx. $40 U.S.), so I will order it.

Upon rereading this thread, I realized that my dealer had quoted me for the older, smaller version, so I sent him another email asking for the newer, larger one (Part No. K2681-21212) - hope he can get it!:p

It is not just Kubota as I have a BX2660 and a John Deere 2305 and both have vulnerable HST fans. Neither dealer seemed to know this was an issue.
