Dump Trailer - start to finish

So why do you need to lift it first? My dump trailer works just fine w/o any help.

A very fine building job indeed. Also a very clever way to open and close the rear gate.

GuglioLS for President...or Senator, or Congressman...or SOMETHING!

What?!?!...He has a great idea and carries it through to success. I just think that is needed now. Good ole Yankee hard work and ingenuity.

It must be a pleasure to use also. Nice Job.

HahaHa you crack me up, thanks Peter. Hey I'm a former buckeye, left the Chagrin Falls area (Bainbridge) just before the winter of '76.

Thanks Deerelope,
I think I forgot to mention that I plumbed the gate cylinders in parallel with the tilt bed cylinders. Doing it that way has the following advantages:
1. No extra valve needed to operate the dump gate.
2. The gate opens automatically as the bed is raised.
3. The gate locks closed when the bed is lowered.
4. I don't have to get off my tractor or dozer to latch / unlatch the dump gate.
5. I was able to use cylinders I had laying around as leftovers from another project.
6. It's a two way tailgate.

The only time I have to operate it by hand is in tailgate mode to load / unload building material, and normally one would do that by hand anyway right?

Thanks for all the great feedback guys!

Larry, finally a dump trailer that looks rugged and sturdily built!

I have seen several dump trailers damaged from over loading. There are sometimes stickers all over the trailers warning not to load more than xxxx pounds. However, when the owner is trying to move the most dirt or wood in the least number of trips, they tend to heap more and more on until it fails. I don't think you could overload yours except with lead or maybe wet cement. :D

Congratulations on a great project!

When I build a trailer or a stake rack I always make it 6-8" lower to allow for heaping loads. We all do it, because its just human nature to get on all we can.

I was wondering if that was the case when I was watching the video. I can see some definate advantages to doing it that way.
