Question: Why does my rear blade keep breaking off the swivel?

I have a 45 hp tractor pulling 5 foot swivel blade and every two years the weld breaks. Is it that I need a heavy duty blade, is my tractor too big for the blade, or is this just a fact of life? I grade some ditches, dirt paths and sometime hit some roots that stop me.

What do you suggest and what is a recommended brand?

i have a 5 foot rhino tilt swivel and about every 2 years I have to replace the bolts. the heads pop off. Know I know mine is caused by catching it on a root or rock that stops the tractor, if I am going slow.

I would say that your blade is way to small for your tractor. Usually for your size machine I would use a 7 footer that is at least medium duty. Land Pride or Woods make good implements. There are others also, but those two are the first that come to mind. Land Pride shows a weight rating for their blades, that should help you.

i have a woods 6ft blade on my L4400, and it will stop the tractor, 4x4, with chains dead in its tracks, without breaking, though the moldboard willbend quite a bit, but it returns to normals

better to break the blade than the tractor ...I have equivalent horsepower and run an 8 footer ...but it has hydraulic angle with a "cushion" valve to, well, cushion the blade and the tractor...

Thanks all. I looked mine up on the web and it was a Woods standard duty rated for 40 hp. So I guess I need to go up to a medium or heavy duty 6 or 7 footer. Any pros or concerns on these choices?

King kutter HD-RB 84
landpride rb35
rhino 300 or 350
Woods HBL medium duty

Any other choices?

I'm partial to Land Pride, and I would go with a blade that will cover your tracks when at a 45 degree angle. (7 footer) But you definitely need at the minimum, a medium duty blade. If you have rear remotes, maybe think about getting a blade with hydraulics, they sure are nice to have. :D

I had the same problem with a 6' Howse I used behind my Jinma 254 with R1's. My Ford 861 has no problem with this blade but the Jinma is just too much for it. My Jinma is heavy, 5,200#, and I could brake the blade at will. I busted it 2 times just pushing snow in the same fashion as you. I went with a 7' HD Woods and have not had a single problem.

I had a KK from Tractor Supply that was fine for my TC29 when I owned it but I turned the blade into a U shape with my L4200, The light duty blades are not made for the bigger machines.

I used to have a TSC blade on a Kubota M4700 (45 hp). I was a frequent customer at the local weld shop :( Later, TSC started rating their stuff for 30 or 35 hp max.

I upgraded to a Woods medium duty blade (MD72) and have not had any more problems in ten years, even though the current tractor is a bit more capable (M5040, 4wd).
