Thinking fairly seriously about one of these models; just wish I had acted when the free loader program was going.

How do you like your DS ?
Does the joystick for the loader seem to be at an awkward location compared to being on the fender like the DK ?

How do you like the manual shuttle ? Is it synchronized, or do you have to completely stop to change it like the gears ?
After using your DS, did you have any regrets about not getting a tractor with HST ?

Somewhat confused about the dimensions and weight; my local dealer said the DS is identical in size and weight as the DK.
However, Kioti web site lists the DS4110 as weighing 3527# and the DK40SE gear as 4202. But if the DK is heavier, you would also think it would be bigger in size, and though the specs show the DK to have about 1" longer wheelbase, the DK shows to be 63.9" wide whereas the DS is listed at 69.5" wide. What gives here; maybe a misprint ?

The main thing that I'm hesitant about on the DS is whether or not I will regret not getting a tractor with HST. I have read the pros and cons about HST vs gear til I'm blue in the face, but still not sure. Only tractors I've used have been gear, but I demoed HST at dealers and I have a HST lawn mower, so I'm familiar with how it works.
I have 24 acres of woods, half level and half fairly steep; don't figure on using any tractor too much on the steep part.
My main uses for the tractor will be:
Moving piles of brush and tree tops.
Maintaining a 1000' driveway.
Making and brush hogging ATV trails.
General grading and dirt work; moving rocks, etc.
No big fields to hog, nor any hours on end loader work.
Figuring on adding a hoe later on.

Of course, if money was no object, I would spring for a tractor with HST, but money always is when retired on SS.
I am mostly attracted to this model because of the size, the loader capacity ( I definitely want to outfit it with a grapple) and the horsepower for the price.

Please chime in on what you think of these DS models.

Thanks,
Arky

I haven't seen a DS model but have looked at the specs and brochure to compare it to my DK40se. There are many more similarities than differences and the differences seem to be mostly in the bells and whistles department.

Rear remotes are not standard. The FEL controller stick is not as conveniently located. The 4wd is not electrically operated (but the PTO is). The 3PT arms don't have the fancy adjustable linkage thingies at the end (which I have used about twice). I cannot tell for sure but it looks like the seat is the same and the dash looks familiar.

The big issues, loader capacity, engine power etc are all identical.

I don't trust measurements on the Kioti webpage. They don't do a good job of insuring accuracy and there are many errors. No way this tractor is significantly different in size from the DK40se. It must have the same axles as it has the same loader and smaller axles would have prevented that.

Looks to me that this is Kioti's version of the plain L Kubota such as the L4400 as a less lux version of the L4230.

Looks like a very nice tractor. I wonder what the difference in price will be compared to the DK40se standard or HST.

Given the tasks you list I would not hesitate to get the DS4110 if the DK40se HST was too dear. The differences amount to convenience items. I do much the same work you are considering with my DK40se and it does a brilliant job. You'll love the loader/grapple combo if you go that route. (48 inch light duty grapple is fine)

Island Tractor,

Please tell me more about your grapple. Did the dealer install it ?
What about the price ? Where can I purchase one ?

Thanks,

The DS has a very plain seat no height or suspension.
It is about 2-3k difference in price again that will be a dealer specific answere.
Also the DS has a 66" bucket and the DK has a 72"

What would the suspension seat upgrade cost Rick? Woudl it be a simple bolt in? I suffered through a non suspension seat with my early CK20 and I'd not do that again. The DK suspension seat is very nice.

With a $2000-3000 difference in price I guess you'd need to consider the seat (?500-700) and a set of rear remotes (?350 from dealer) so that makes it about a 1000-2000 difference or roughly the cost of a nice implement or grapple set up. Tough call. I love my DK40se but I can see that I would probably prefer the simpler tractor with the extra implement to the fancy one without.

Check out posts on Markham grapples. 48 inch light duty would be fine. Mine is a Millonzi 48 LD but they are no longer available.

If you have the dealer install a set of rear remotes you can control the grapple from there. A dealer could also install either a diverter valve or electric over hydraulic control valve for more money. Lots of posts on TBN regarding the pros and cons of those options. All work well so it can be a tough choice. The rear remote route has an advantage in that it is cheapest and you can use the rear remote for other things (hydraulic topping lift for example). However there are good points about the other options as well.

I'll have to look and see if it can be a direct bolt on...

I was assuming the DS uses the same sheet metal for the operator station as the DK. Looks pretty similar. Is it different?

The tractor is much more closely related to the Old DK series than the new DK SE series.
They are a proven tractor.
Nice machines, thought about keeping a 4110 for the shop with a hoe and loader on it.
Thought I better sell a few first LOL
