After a major bruise on my daily driver (an 04 GMC 1/2 ton) I decided to pick up a work truck. My father had an 86 1 ton dump that I drove and plowed snow with for years and I always loved that truck. Its been gone for at least 10 years now, but I found this 87 as a replacement:

1987 GMC (chevy grill), 6.2L diesel, Th400, electric over hydraulic dump. Same colors as the old 86! Got some rust, but the frame is still in good shape and the previous owner replaced all the body panels except for the hood. These photos are from the day i bought it, but I have since painted the frame, replace the fuel tank and have service all fluids and filters.

It's ok to have a beater only or a beater and a nice truck, but you can't have a nice truck only. Your nice truck needs a beater for company. :D

Well my 03 Avalanche did double duty for a long long time. She's hauled supplies for all the construction trades and many trips to the dump with bathtubs, doors, studs, toilets, dirt, field stone, etc etc. She's earned her time off and now enjoys the company in the driveway with the enlisted help of an 01 GMC 2500HD :)

Your Avelanche a 3/4 or 1/2 ton? Also, what motor is in it?

1500 series 4x4, engine size? Beats me, I never looked, probably 5.7L

Have you checked the oil? Next time look on the stickers along the front radiator support and one of them has the engine size listed on it.
