Operation "FIND A BEATER" is over. I scored my favorite truck of all time. A 73K5 blazer full convertible. It has a 350, muncie 4 speed, Np 205 transfer case, 12 bolt rear, dana 44 up front. Not much rust, just needs alot of TLC. It had been sitting for years, I got her running great.
The best part, I paid $500 for it! These trucks are hard to find. They only made that body style from 73-75. 75 was last year of the full convertibles.

AWESOME! I'm right there with you on the favorite truck of all time. THe only thing better than that would be a first generation blazer to me(pre 73). Im always envious of the southern trucks. 8-10 years is all it takes up here to really do a number on a pickup truck. Five hundred bucks wouldnt buy you a rusted out non running parts truck up here. VERY WELL DONE! Make sure to keep us updated with progress. Up here that truck would be described as "mint."

No offense to anyone but I don't think many of you really know what a "beater" (truck) is...
At least where I work and play most of the turcks that have been pictured would be considered every day drivers (some even show quality)...
In these parts... true "beaters" are often called firewood trucks and get traded a dozen times or more every season...they are used to haul firewood then traded to the next guy to haul his wood etc...etc...(no titles needed for old vehicles here)
I just traded a 79 Chevy 1/2 ton that had over 300k miles...but one vehicle I have held onto is an '82' American (Motors) Eagle wagon...4WD...I have used this wagon much the way "beaters" are used... I've hauled gravel, stone for masonry,firewood, pulled stumps...you name it...also used it to do many of the things I now do with a tractor...I have had to pull more 3/4 ton 4x4's out of the mud and holes than I can count...the wagon will "go in the snow" it weighs over 3500#s

I know what you are saying, some of these trucks are really nice. The chevy I had was to nice, that is why i got rid of it as my beater. And I am afraid that the K5 will only be a beater long enough for me to get a shop built. Then it will get restored. lol
The only true beater I had was a 81 F-250, that thing was beat to he*l and back. It looked like someone took a 4 pound hammer to every panel of it. When I needed a trail, I just made one. Couldn't pull that tree up? Just snatch it harder. I never did break anything on it other than snagging the exhaust and ripping it off. It still ran like a champ when I got rid of it.

Thousands of nice blazers over there. There are always alot in the classifieds too. You never know, might find your dream truck.
If I ever get me a shop, I will definately fix this baby up, they are too pretty not to.

That's a pretty good beater.
Around here this time of the year, the best place to see beaters is on the Walmart parking lot--pickups piled so high with firewood for sale that the frame is riding on the rear axle. The really interesting ones have one of the rear shocks shot so the entire load leans way off vertical.
