Nice idea Kidr, I wonder how that might work for digging out roots from small trees and bushes? I have been thinking of ways to get rid of stumps with my little tractor without trying to rip them from the ground with a chain. If you ever use it that way let us know how it works out. Your project sparked a couple ideas, nice job and thanks again.

I think a sub soiler would work very well at that if you used it sort of radially outwards from the trunk.
Then across the roots far enough out to be able to lift or split them.
Slow and tedious maybe, but not excavator scale cost of machinery.

Thats cool. I am in the process of fitting a Harbor Freight Quick Hitch to a SS quick detach plate and my first impalement to install is the subsoiler. I want to install it so that the point is forward and I can work the subsoiler under roots and such and pop them out of the ground.

Some roots can be 20 feet out so allow plenty of starting distance and work toward the mother stump a little at the time and quite a large root can be removed with a very small unit!

I am digging stumps out of my gardens with the ole Case 580 and some of these things take a lot of digging to get out! thanks; sonny580

HEY MATE THIS LOOKS GOOD THIS WOULD BE USEFUL FOR ME FOR DIGING OUT SAGE BRUSH AS THE ROOTS AREN'T TO DEEP THX FOR THAT :)

Now that's slick! I bet you could make some nice 2ft deep trenches with that rig.

I thought someone might be interested in this. I made a bucket to fit on a potato plow mounted to the FEL. It digs to about 2 ft as is. With an extention could dig to about 3 ft. without hitting the tractor on the curl. I use for planting and starting holes for the PHD in hard ground.

That's very neat. I have been thinking of something like that. Good build project for the winter. Not a backhoe but good enough for many small jobs.

Now that is a great idea!

I have been pricing out the bits for this, trouble is the skid steer adapter frame.
I already have a set of pallet forks and right now I'm thinking of trying a scheme that replaces the actual forks with a couple of lift arms, then something simple for the top link.
Yeah, I can get there from here (-:

For A plate try atvpress on ebay . very heavy duty, fairly reasonable price. Mine came from there. It will almost double the usefullness of the tractor. Put on a box blade or rake and groom a steep bank. middle buster for roots.I use a carryall on the front to load hay in the barn . or to use as a workbench when working high up, fit with a railing for a scaffold (I know). The uses are as endless as your imagination. I think a very worthwhile investment.
