My reply to the original poster is "Mind your own business". I won't even bother going into rant mode.

4 wheeler

Streetbike

Wagon

Submarine!

Pitbike

Melons! (I've even turned him into a womanizer!)

Snowblower at 7 months

Want my address for the DHS? I've got even more to show them.

Well I guess right back atchya.

Hoping you never have to do any explaining to the boss if god forbid anything went wrong on that bike. I know in Maine (family originally from Fort Kent) the roads are always in excellent shape, never any sand, never any frost heaves, never any moose, never any deere, can't think of a safer place to tool around with my kid on the tank.

Raising your son to be a womanizer, dahhh I get it, melons, women, ha ha ha. Boy he'll be in a board room in no time with that kind of mindset, talk about tools for success.

Back on a semi reasonable note, I'm all for kids experiencing fun activities, but I try to manage the level of risk the best I can. Out on the road on a bike there is to much out of my control.

Joel, I'm with you. When I was a young punk, would ride at speeds 100+. If I hit a bottle cap wrong, it could have been the end.
*My wife's step-father had to lay it down when he was cut-off. Low speed (~10 mph) when he went down. Hardly a scratch on the bike and very little road rash. But the handle bars caught him in the ribs, broke a couple, punctured a lung, and he died weeks later from complications. Granted, freak scenario, but just shows it doesn't take much.
My wifes cousins wife was killed last weekend in a MC accident when the cycle operated buy her husband slid on loose gravel went off the road and down an embankment.
She died of a broken neck?

Everyone is coming down on the side of Motorcycles are more dangerous, I think this is a biased perception, based on the fact that mc's go fast. Fact is (don't have any stats to back this up) more kids have been killed around tractors than on motorcycles, probably due to the perception that tractors are so slow they must be safe.

I've heard of many deaths from dads or gramps taking kids for a ride on their lap on a riding lawn mowers.

That said, that pic from Haymaker with an infant on a street bike would be an open and shut case of a risk of injury to a minor charge, unless it was just a little putting around the back yard or maybe a very quiet side street.

its not that the motorcycles are more dangerous to ride on or to drive, it is that the other people on the roadways driving 2 ton cars that dont see you in there blind spot, Back in the early 90's my wife and I were on our Gl riding with a freind that happen to be riding his youger nephew about 10or 11 years of age, we diceded we needed a break so we pulled in at MC-D's and as we were circling to find a parking space our freind and his nephew just in front of us there sudenly a car backed out and hit him, could have well been either one of us, and I suppose if had it been us on our GL we had a bit more protection with it having a full vetter Fairing etc, our freind was thrown over the handlebars of his CB900 and land against the back glass while the bike fell over on top of the child and the car over the front wheel of the bike, just a few bumps a scratches, the bike was total out, and this was only traveling at idle speed,........... its not bikes that are the problem its the folks that do not look out for us bikers, back in through out the 80's 90's and even now we are campaigning for more awareness but have gain little ground,
there are always new & young drivers that are not well informed of the fact that they are driving around a loaded gun ready to kill or be killed,
and some bikers actually I shouldn't call them bikers More like (death wishers)put a bad name on other bikers like the ones who you see drive 110 mph on their rear wheel going down the interstate, No one deserves to die but I'd say these guys are asking to see death up close and personal,
............... bottom line is No! motorcycle's are not dangerous to those who act responsibly, and knowing when and when not to ride someone is part of being responsible, dont ride a child on an busy street or interstate in rush our traffic,
( its a No brainer ) ;)

Bikes are definitely hard to see. I spend a lot more time than the average driver at a crossroads I'm sure. I try to look, look and look again, just for motorcycles.

It's been many years since I rode a bike, but I know the feeling of approaching an intersection and looking at drivers trying to decide if they saw me or not. You can be fooled. I have seen them look exactly in my direction and then pull out. They really don't see you.

The big bright daytime headlights help for sure. I am not sure it is to the biker's advantage to blind me as I approach however. Some are just not aimed very smart.

I passed a guy today at a stop light, he's driving a harley, smoking a cigarette with a little girl on the back, she was between 8 and 10 years old.

Always shocked when I see little children on the back of motorcycles.

I just shake my head.

if the motorcycle has a seat for the rider.. then it's ok..

this makes me think of the seatbelt law here in Ga. dont get me wrong I'm all for the seatbelt saving lives thing etc, But a child has to be seatbelted in a car seat, but can ride open freely on the back seat of a cycle:cool:
Hmmmm! think about it!

Ditto. Wake up people. Motorcycling is dangerous. You want to take the risk of riding motorcyles (and I do on occasion), fine. However, leave the children at home.

living is dangerous.. it's the 100% leading cause of death.

lets keep this all in perspective people....

take 'child' out of the pic.

motorcycles don't have seatbelts.. for the driver or rider.. don't matter if the rider is a 10yr old child.. or a full grown adult the size of a 10yr old child.

tractors with no rops have no seatbelts either.. ( most tractors only have one seat too. )

Yeah! I'm just saying.... if there is a law for having to use a seatbelt then you would think there would be a law against riding x year old children on cycles.
I know here in Ga. about 10 years ago a law pass that children under 15 could not own or ride a 4 wheeler, but they could how ever ride a dirtbike,
of course you know how that went, parents would buy the 4 wheelers anyway and then place a lawsuit against the mufactures after their children getting hurt or killed on them .......then a few years later manufactures in
( china )started building 4 wheelers the size only a child could drive, I mean they were very small gas engine etc, 4 wheelers the it would have to be a 5 year old size child to fit on them, You've seen them! definitly to small for a 15 year old, anyway's U.S. allowed them to be sold over here, and of course children still are getting injured and or killed,

Go figure!
