I'm having trouble with round bales sticking on the quick attach hay spear on the FEL. One bale was stuck so bad....we ended up breaking the spear. A new spear, slightly smaller in circumference has been weld on...and I'm again having the same problem. I tried spraying on some white grease...it help some, but isn't the complete answer.

Anybody had this problem?

umm - forgive my lack of knowledge of hay spears here- but why are you going all the way in? would half way or so work ? Then you wouldn't be stuck?

The obvious solution is to "dump" the spear as one would a bucket of dirt. If you want to leave the bale on the ground with the outer diameter at rest, set the bale down making sure the spear is curled back a little so the point is higher than the base, then back away. If you set it down with the point lower than the base, the bale won't come off, and if you have a poor quality spear, breakage will be easy. Use a hand grinder or other means to make sure there are no burrs or roughness on the spear; good quality spears don't usually have this problem. Do you put white grease on your dinner salad? Why do you expect your livestock to eat it?

Grease wasn't what I wanted to do...but had to try something. This problem is primary in loading bales on a trailer, then pulling back....can't dump them like you describe.

Ah, you've got that big fat sucker. I have one of those on a 3-point spear and have the same problem. On my spear for my loader I have the smaller diameter spear that is about have that size, it is forged I believe and I don't have the problem with it. If you don't want to trade the whole assembly off you can just buy the spear and the sleeve it goes in and cut your old sleeve/spear out and weld in the smaller sleeve/spear. I think they are about $100.

Your spear shouldn't be giving you that much trouble.

We use this on all of our bale spears.
