Ford 1200
First time post here so I apologize if I have got this in the wrong forum.
I've got a Ford 1200 with Ag tries. I want to move to turf tires since I do a lot of pasture work and the ag tires tear things up a bit.
I know the tire sizes are 8-16 for the rear and 6-12 for the front. What size tires do I need if I go to turf tires? It seems the turf tires are sized differently than ag tires.

I'm not familiar with the Ford's but you might need new rims to go with turfs. Check the spec's in the manual, if you have it. If not, ask on the New Holland forum, someone over there might have the spec's for it.

I'm not really familiar with a Ford 1200 myself, but I don't know of any tractor on which you can go from Ag tires to Turf tires, or vice versa, without also changing wheels.

Plan on paying. My co worker just got new rear tires and wheels for a 8N and it was in the $800 range. I would think this is going to cost you about $1200 to $1500 but like the others I am not familiar with your machine.

I agree with the others that you will most likely need new rims. If your 1200 is 4WD another important consideration is the gear ratio between the front and rear axle. Your new tires will need to maintain this ratio.

I have a Ford 1700 with Ag tires and have been considering the same switch. I have to switch rims as well and while 1500 is the figure I was given. That could be low as I have 11-24 rear and 6-16 fronts. I have 4WD and have to maintain the tire circumference relation front to rear.

You will almost certainly need rims that are wider at the bead and smaller diameter.
I got 18x44-20 turfs to replace 17.5Lx24 R4s on the back and
29x12.5-15 turfs to replace 12x16.5 R4s on the front.
I don't have any R1s for this tractor, but they would be 8x18 front and 12.4x28 on the rear.

Translation;
The rear rims are 20 inch diameter for turfs, 24 inch for R4s
the front rims are 15 diameter for turfs, 16.5 for R4s
Turfs are measured Width, overall diameter, rim diameter.
R4s are measured Width and rim diameter.

The turfs cost me $600 a couple of years ago, they were NOS new, old stock.
Shop for "take offs", i.e. wheel and tire sets that came on new tractors from the factory but the owner wanted changed for something else.
Another option is golf courses, you might be surprised how early they throw out turf tires.
No surprise, they want gentle and they DON'T want wheel spin on the fairways (-:

It only really MATTERS if you go into lag or use 4wd (or "front wheel assist") on dry hard pavement.

is this a 4wd? or standard 2wd? if 2 wheel drive then I may mention another option , the 1200 is a rather light weight tractor and the size wheels you say they are 8-16 on rear and 6-12 on the front, these sizes are comparable to some truck size tire for the rear, and a trailer & lightweight cars size for the front,
you could go with a 8 ply A/T 16" and not have to change the wheels, probable for less than 135 each
and a 6 or 8 ply 12" for the front, for around 69.00 each still around 425+ for a set.... although this might not be in your interest using truck & car style tires, I just thought I'd throw this at you, ;)
actaully I am using 275's 85's on my Super D f-250 that would probably work well on a tractor in both turf and mud.
here is an example of tires Im taliking about

I have an extra set of turf tires with wheels that came off a 1500, but will fit many different ford CUT's.13.6-16 Tires have some cracking, but hold air and has plenty of tread left. They're 6 ply Denman brand. Reply with email & I'll send you some pics.
