I think that one of the reasons that manufacturers don't try to make a roll-over proof machine is liability. Right now you are warned that a tractor can roll if certain precautions are not implemented and if you fail to do so it is your fault.

If the manufacturer sells a roll-over proof machine, you can bet that some fool will figure a way to make it roll over and get killed and then the manufacturer will face a huge lawsuit because his roll-over proof machine rolled over.

I think that would have to call it a RRS (roll resistant system) because you are right if a person is determined there is always a way to take a wild ride.

If it was a comercially feasable idea.. them green tractors would already have it.

If they want let some other color tractor get it done first, well it will be their loss.:confused:

Somebody has to be first. I would imagine that a Japanese or Korean tractor builder may beat them to it since they seem to market the smaller tractors and less professional useres who will benifit most because of the volume of production.

Interesting subject.
A few thoughts to ponder......Do we really want to get the insurance companies involved? You know they'll say there needs to be a government standard. No thanks!!!

While the parts may only cost a few dollars to produce they will cost allot to develop and test before they go into production. No manufacturer is going to throw safety devices on a piece of equipment without rigorous testing.

I'm not sure they'd add safety devices without a government mandate and standards. That could create liability issues for them if someone found a way to get hurt or kill themselves despite having the safety devices. Besides, I can't think of any area of our lives that we need more government intervention. I can however think of several areas of our lives where there is too much government intervention.

Lets look more at the real costs involved....manufacturers will have to increase costs to the consumer (you and me) to cover their development and testing costs, as well as increased tooling and labor costs to install these devices. Don't forget they'll need to add enough to the price to cover the inevitable lawsuits when some idiot finds a way to get hurt or killed. Don't forget the techs at the dealer will need to be trained on diagnosing and servicing these new safety devices. Someone will have to develop, test, produce and market diagnostic equipment for the service techs to use.

Electronic parts are incredibly expensive at the retail level.

What happens when an idiot proof tractor rolls because the electronic safety device fails? The lawyers will have a field day with that.

No matter how hard you try, you can't make a piece of equipment idiot proof. The government and auto makers have been trying that for over 50 years but thousands of people get hurt or killed every year in auto accidents.

I don't doubt that electronics will become more prevalent in tractors. That could be a good thing for the weekend warrior. My guess is the manufacturers are already working on some of the things discussed here.

So what's the best way to keep someone from getting in a situation where they could get hurt? Ever hear of the KISS system? (Keep It Simple Stupid) Education!!!!....like saying "don't pull from the top link. This is what will happen" then show a picture of an upside down tractor.

Yeah right... product liability lawsuits are largely an uncontrolled united states issue..

less 'pull' for a more expensicve tractor in a market that cares less about liability.
