Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Moved in excess of 18 inches of snow

Well, I got outside at about 11:15 this morning. We got about 1'+ down here in La Plata. Took me until about 2:15 pm, to shovel the sidewalk and concrete pads around the house, as well as clear off two 3/4 ton vehicles. After that I started on the driveway, and worked on that until about 4. I only got the upper half done as I couldn't stand to be out there any longer, my hands were getting too cold, I'll finish the hill and lower part of the driveway in the morning. Got about an hr and a half worth of tractor time. Also realized I need to come up with a better way of clearing snow off the driveway, particularly one that keeps me from skimming a layer of gravel off in the process.

I'm new to plowing snow and I was out there this morning plowing over a foot of snow. What I found that worked for me was I engaged the float position on the FEL and plowed. This leaves a thin layer of snow. I then angled my rear blade and pushed snow in reverse (make sure your blade is curled in towards tractor). This worked very well for me and did not dig up gravel at all. You won't get down to the original surface but **** close and the job looks nice and neat.

We had about a foot in Floyd County, VA. It took about three hours to clear our 500' gravel driveway with my almost new 2305 and FEL. I need a blade..... We are having an addition added to the house, and several heavy trucks have been rough on the driveway. I plan to wait until construction is done before fixing it. Unfortunately, the snow came first, and between the driveway being rutted and my inexperience with the FEL, it's not a perfect snow clearing job. :) Oh well, at least we can get out, and I didn't have to call a neighbor to plow us out.

Pics:
1) there were 3' drifts in front of the garage
2) looking down the driveway before clearing
3) Before the storm, I parked the tractor where it would be easily accessible.
4) at work.

The float position worked in certain areas, and others it skimmed too much gravel off. As long as I was able to get enough snow off to leave about a 1" - 2" layer than I was pretty satisfied. No rear blade here, but after reading numerous threads for the last few days I may invest in one for next year. Though, we usually only get snows like this every couple of years.

I head back out at 9 for round 2!
