Depending on whether you HAVE to see and drive the exact tractor you'll be driving, you don't necessarily have to drive to Wallace's. I used the local dealer for test drives and info, and to feel them out and get their best price. Then I simply got a quote for the same tractor from Wallace. Beat the local guy by a lot on price and he wouldn't negotiate to even close. I bought from Wallace sight unseen. I've never been in his store. He delivered it to my door. Prep work was excellent. Didn't miss a thing. To this day everything is high and tight.

On your local dealers, he may be closed for the holidays, or operating on very reduced staff/hours. I'd at least pay him a visit and see what he's all about before making up my mind. You are right, it's not good business to ignore email. But, there are a lot of old-schoolers out there that just have trouble even using email.

Customer service has really gone down the toilet in many industries. I think in this case, it is probably just an old timer who doesn't use email alot. I would call and give them a chance.

I called a few dealers when I was shopping. Some were very helpful.....others thought I was another dealer scoping them out. lol

Unrelated.

I called a Honda dealer:

Joel: I'd like a price on a 2010 honda pilot base model.
Dealer: Hold on I'll check if I have one.
Dealer: Sorry I don't have one on the lot.
Joel: Ummm, waiting for a price.
Dealer: Crickets
Joel: OK, thanks, I'll just buy somewhere else goodbye
Dealer: Dahh, OK, goodbye.

Could you imagine what the owner of that dealership would've said if he overheard that conversation??

He never thought to say to me, Joel I can sell you one for $26,900 and have it on the lot within (pick a number of days).

I was speachless.

Reminds me of when I bought my Pilot. I already had offers near dealer invoice, and I called one dealer who told me they were so popular they were selling them over MSRP. Sure did save me a trip to that dealer.

This is almost exactly the same experience I had during my hunt for a tractor.
And my kioti came from wallace too.
Hey I just noticed the new avatar Rick. I bet Davidnpro could get a heck of a deal on that tractor right? lol

theres a wonderful invention called a telephone, use it.

I prefer email, I can send one when I'm looking at things, like MIDNIGHT and the dealer isn't open, and they can respond the next day when I am working and unavailable for a phone call. But here's the rest of my previous story....

I was looking to buy my 2nd tractor, and was looking at blue ones. I went to the local blue dealer, couldn't even get a salesman to acknowledge I was even there. Maybe I caught them at a bad time, but I spent a long time looking at their tractors and even waited inside looking at their literature.
So I moved on. I called (using that wonderful invention) another dealer an hour away. Got a price on the tractor I was looking for. So I visited the dealer, looked at the tractor, and they now give me a price couple K higher than they gave me on the phone. They don't know anything about the price I got on the phone, even though I had the name of the person who gave the verbal quote. They lost a sale, I was ready to buy. So that phone thing ended up wasting a few hours of my time, and lost them a sale.
I ended up buying Kubota from a local dealer.
Recently I was looking for prices on an attachment. I emailed several dealers. my local kubota dealer emailed me right back. Messicks also emailed me right back. The previous mentioned blue dealer (who also sales orange) also sales the attachment based on their web site. I emailed them also, figured I would check them out again. NO response, that's their 3rd strike. Why bother with a web site and email feedback form if they ignore it.
We have a new white dealer in town, the repainted Kioti's. I stopped there one day just to look around. They were great, came out, let me play with a tractor and backhoe, let me run a small excavator, gave me lots of info and prices. Even offered to deliver a tractor to my house to try out. No other dealer has ever done that. I didn't take him up on the offer since I wasn't real serious yet, but I might in the future. This same dealer has another dealership in another town that also sells Kubota.
I bought my L5030HST over the phone from a dealer in another state, but they are the closest dealer to where the tractor is kept. This deal was combined phone calls and emails and a visit to sign the papers.
Merry Christmas everyone, maybe there will be another toy in my stocking soon :)

Only 10 hours......
Has a brand new crate engine!

That's right a brand new engine.....That's what happens when a tractor lays on it side and runs out of engine oil:eek:
Customer did not get hurt and he had insurance.;)
So for all of you guys out there let this be a $5,200 lesson.
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP INSURANCE ON YOUR TOYS!!!

Okay now all of you stop and think. You are the dealer. You get an email asking for information and "rough pricing" on a product. You have been in business for many years, and HISTORY is all you have to go on. How many of these email inquiries have turned into sales? The real number would probably be less than 1%. Then you have a person who has been "shopping" your dealership, and then this type of thing happens.......

Depending on whether you HAVE to see and drive the exact tractor you'll be driving, you don't necessarily have to drive to Wallace's. I used the local dealer for test drives and info, and to feel them out and get their best price. Then I simply got a quote for the same tractor from Wallace. You are right, it's not good business to ignore email. But, there are a lot of old-schoolers out there that just have trouble even using email.

Lets say the local dealer spent ten hours for you to "test drive" kick tires, get specs, talk incessantly about the tractors, etc.. You then go and buy from an out of town dealer. All of you be honest....most of you never have the intent of purchasing from any of the dealers you contact by phone or email.....you are simply trying to get any "club" you can to beat the dealer you have decided to buy from, down on his price. I can hear the conversation now....well I have been quoted a price of $XXXXXX dollars from another dealer. So you have wasted a local dealers time and energy.

My only wish is this....that I see many many more posts on this forum about how some of you got a great deal on your tractor from some dealer four hours away from you.....Now your local dealer will not service or repair your tractor. For any local dealer who has been treated in this shabby fashion....I hope they just grin and smile at you when you need service and or repair, and then break it off in each one of you with the bill. Oh yes and remember, once you leave your "good buy" tractor with them to repair....they own it until you pay the bill.
