Fuel gelling?

   / Fuel gelling? #91
We had a skid steer gell up on us one winter . Cold as **** out ,we poured two times the amount of 911 [The red bottle] in the tank .Took off the fuel filter cleaned out as much as we could and filled the filter with 1/2 911 and fuel ,waited awhile then it started up ,ran alittle rough for a bit but came out of it .We also ran a cord out to it for the block heater ,which I think helped alot. Good luck getting it going!!

One bottle of Howe's and 45 minutes blowing on the filters with a hairdryer and she started right up. The wind subsided and the temp came up to eighteen above which helped immensely. Thanks for the tips, especially to the guy who mentioned a hair dryer. By the way, my tank has 50% #1 in it now. I learned my lesson!

I bought the diesel in August. I agree, this made a believer out of me. I was reading my manual as I sat in disgust and it actually says to use 100% #1 when the temp is below 7 degrees F. I have another question. Should I drain one half of the tank out and add at least 50% #1 or do additives actually make #2 perform like #1? I'll keep you guys updated. I plan to try to fix this today. It's still blizzarding here. The only way to town right now is via snowmobile. We had a very harsh winter last year and the snow from the last 36 hours is worse than anything last year. Thanks for the help.
Are you talking about Diesel or Kero?
Quote:
1*Why would there be any difference in price ?

1*Cause if the police inspect your truck (and fuel) with no dyed fuel you are in trouble..
2*Hence, why HHO is cheaper. then diesel.
3*In case you do not know in your area, HHO and diesel are the same except the gov wants the tax
4* they dye the fuel for this reason.
5*And yea, I know some that got nailed using it .
6*Sales tax on the heating oil?
__________________
1*This is about on road fuel and has nothing to do with the subject of off road being discussed .
2*This is not correct .
The price is determined by where it's used and not what it's called or what's its used in or for.
3* HHO and diesel unless used on road are tax empt so neither are taxable .
4*they dye the fuel to make it easier to catch people illegally using it on the highway .
5*But you never met anyone that was nailed for using it illegally off road. .

Sales tax on the heating oil?

1*fuel tax for diesel and zero for HHO..
2*That is why people try and use HHO since they save, depends on your area but, here about $0.50 per gallon.
1*The tax is the same for HHO or Red Diesel since they are tax empt .
2*This applies the same to diesel

You're welcome.

A good hair dryer ought to be a tool in every man's shop. :D:D:D

My old lady always is asking where the hair dryer is. 9 times out of 10 I have it in the shop taking stickers off a boat, drying paint, or something else it was not designed for. You think I would pick up a $10 one at WalMart but I am not that smart.

Big thing is the fuel suppliers using JUNK additives to do the finish product. "Neat" (unadditized) diesel fuel at the terminals has the finish additives mixed in to create the final product #1 or #2. When the suppliers use crap additives to finish the final ptroduct as delivered to the supplier you get the fuel from they are trying to cut cost just like everyone else in the world right now.
Caterpillar has a manual that you can download off of www.cat.com that has their fuel recommendations and if those are followed you will not have any problems. But the catch is your fuel supplier has to follow the blending and standards that are set by the Engine Manufactuer associations. Search for SEBU6251 (Caterpillar Diesel Engine Fluids Recommendations). That has the most up to date information that is easy to read and understand and that will apply to all diesel engines. Putting additives in after the fact the system has gelled is a WASTE of time and money. You will need to change out the fuel filters when the tractor has been warmed up and run the dickens out of it to get the fuel system low enought to add more fuel from a reputable supplier!:)
