Hydraulic Pump Dead?

I finally got around to changing my hydraulic fluid. It is VERY milky. I dumped the fluid that was in it, and then I ran a few gallons of fresh hyd. fluid and diesel fuel through it for a little while as suggested. The diesel mix came out looking almost as milky as the the first stuff. I'm letting the tractor sit overnight with the drain plug out and the filter off to let it drain all the way. (The tractor is in the garage tonight.)

Now I just have to figure out how water is getting into the fluid.

is this a common sump machine?

When I flush a sump that has been wet or dirty, i always add in some trans tune/seafoam.. or some 90% isopropyl alcohol, plus oil, plus some diesel, then circulate it a bit, then dump.. the seafoam or alc, grabs any free water and holds it in soloution.. the diesel thins it all out and makes it so any debri or suspended particles will run out fast vs settling. the oil is there for some lube and some viscosity and to up the vapor pressure to prevent cavitation that straight diesel would likely cause.

if a sump holds say.. 5g normally.. I usually short it and dump in say.. 3 or a hair more.. just enough to get things going.. and I usually do 50/50 oil/diesel mix.

Do you do anything to clean the mix out of the lines and cylinders before putting in the clean oil? Mine's a common sump for everything except engine. Including brakes. I know there's a warning that putting in the wrong fluid can destroy my brakes. JD 2240.

You know as well as I do that this not good.
I would continue with 'flushes' until I knew for positive that I had clean fluid in the system.

Build a base.

Is there anything other than water that would make the fluid milky?

The pint or quart of mixed oil left in the lines and pump casting aren't much.. especially on a common sump machine where you have.. what? near 5g of oil?

The brake / oil warning is a specific warning as there are some UTF oils that were not wet clutch / wet brake friendly.

14.5g. I figures they would hold more than that, but even in they held 2g, it would be about the same ratio you described.

I don't know much, if anything, about the different types of oils. It sounds like you're saying that the diesel will be OK with the brakes, is this correct? Don't want to do anything which would damage the brakes by mistake.

A flush won't hurt. If you ran it with a high concentration of diesel.. yes.. it would hurt.

If this scares you.. like it sounds like it does.. then instead flush with cheap UTF oil... probably find some for 35$ per 5g pail.

I just like being cautious when doing something wrong can cause damage. No sense causing additional work for myself.

I thought UTF was what I didn't want to use? My normal oil is HY-GARD (JDM J 20 A) per the manual. As I said, I know little to nothing about different oil types.
