Log Splitter Valve JD Tractor

UPDATE FROM Thom2

Diamondpilot was RIGHT. The cylinder is shot. I'm off to the TSC store to pick up a new cylinder. Special $229.

Heavy-duty Double Acting Cylinder, 24 Stroke x 4 in. dia. - 1837573 | Tractor Supply Company

I'll have the old one rebuilt to have as a backup or rig it on something else.

Thanks Folks, Thom

I am not happy I am right but you can get it rebuilt for about $50 if there is noting needed other than seals.

As for the valve. I would put back on the one that it came with. Top off your fluid and send the Price Valve back since its not really a log splitter valve or keep it for another project.

By the way things have sure went up. I built my own splitter 5 years ago and got my cylinder at Rural King, just like TSC. Anyway its a 4" x 24" stroke just like the one you showed for $99.

Diamondpilot,
I posted another question about "Setting the Relief Pressure" on the new Prince valve.
If they will take the valve back, what valve would you recommend. The old ENERGY valve is about 25 years old & it could fail if it hasn't already. The detent is really worn.

Maybe you should just return it and get a Prince Log Splitter Valve. You will really miss the detent. If anything I would put the Energy back on it to get up and running. Later you can change it out with a proper Log Splitter Valve.

If that's the Prince 2500 valve, there is a detent kit for it, part#660125001

Very good point. He could mount the Prince valve and use as is then order the detent option and make it work the proper way.
