How to use FEL to carry 500lbs up driveway?

Yeah, I guess the easiest way is to hook it up to the 3pt and pull, in this case to the RB.

I meant to take off the rear blade and hook the chipper to the 3 PH. On the other hand, it might not be a PTO chipper and/or might not have a 3 PH mounting frame. More information needed.

you got a problem. the kubota specs says loader can lift 235lbs. I am sure It can lift almost double, but with no counterweight, you will be doing wheelies for sure. And for steering, have fun. If you cant lift it with bucket, the curl will if the relief is not set too low.

You might wanna run down to your local tractor supply store and pick up the 3 pt hitch carryall and turn the lift pins inside to make it fit on your BX. The 3 point can lift 1200lbs and at least you will be more balanced and have steering.

It is a PTO Chipper and is coming with the Quick Hitch with it. I guess I should just take the RB off and hook it up at the bottom of the driveway. That is probably the sfest and fastest way.

Good thought gwdixon, thanks.

The 3 point on a BX can't lift 1200 lbs., according to the specs on Kubota's website it is 670 lbs (which, yes will still lift the chipping).

The chipper is 420lbs which is no problem for the 3pt, the loader however I thought was rated for about 400lbs per Kubota specs.

He probably has the LA203 loader, which can lift 408 lbs at the pivot. I also don't think he can lift 500. Most of the weight will be well in front of the pivot which will reduce the lift and curl capacity.

Look for some wheels. A furniture moving cart, a utility dolly. Heck even a skate board. Lift one end using the FEL, slide the cart under it. Lift the other end with the FEL and strap it to the FEL and then drag it backwards up the drive.

If no wheels, then just strap it to the FEL, lift half of it, and back drag it up the driveway.

Good advise to have a counter weight.

hmm -- Are you sure ? I have a document I setup copied info in one place for my BX24 and as per my manual I can lift 1200 lbs on the 3 pt.

Before anyone gets their shorts in a knot - here are the specs from the Kubota website for the 3 PH (992 lbs. at lift point)(661 lbs. 24" behind). The LA203 loader is rated to lift 447 pounds using the 2.2 rule (Kg to Lbs.) at the top of the lift.

Couldn't you , if you needed the extra lift take off the bucket and hook up to your QA with your chains? I don't know how much the bucket weighs but it would give you alittle less weight to work with. right?

Absolutely! If you've not had anything of that size on your 3ph it will certainly get your attention even mounted there. I have a chipper of about that weight and would not feel comfortable with it in my loader without some very creative and secure way to hold it in. It may take a bit of time but I'd just hook it up to the 3ph (leaving the pto for later). Have some shims/wedges handy to put under the pallet to help in lining things up.
Good luck and enjoy the chipper!
