Loretta
try soaking it in powered dish washer soap in some water for a couple of days

tom

OK, now I know why my flannel shirt AND jeans were in the kitchen sink this morning!
Oh, just great Tom! Another terrific suggestion, but it will never beat the one you gave me about putting the rotary cutter wheel into her dishwasher to clean it. Shees, I'm still paying for that one...:D

Congrats Rob and Loretta!

I totally agree with evertone else's positive comments and of course I am selfishly thankful (AGAIN) for the outstanding documentation on how to fix our tractors. I think your posts have added at least $1000 to the practical value of my Kama.

Loretta - some Goo-Gone or one of the other citrus type degreasers might help with that smell.

I also agree with Jay - sometimes I like to crap up a newer shirt (sorry Diane) just so I'm not wearing old rags in the shop :)

Brad
Thanks Brad,
Ya, I have so many "old" shirts that wearing a new one is a pleasure.
Naturally they have to be broken in and get ruined in the process. I have so many photos posted in so many threads that Larry even commented on my wearing my super old Red Marlboro man shirt. I'm not like him and get new shirts every day, you know.:D

Ok Rob, I think we need some visuals for the shirt and pant soaking!:D Don't shirk on the cleaning detail because you guys go into so much detail on the rebuild!

Maybe we need a thread on how to wash clothes Rob are you up for writing it?

ah, too bad... I already took them out of the sink, but I still need to work on them, because I think they still stink like oil and gasoline. (Rob thinks they smell great:p)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. So far, I've taken liquid Tide and rubbed in into the worst spots (used 1/2 of a very large jug), then added about 3 cups of baking soda, and just enough water to barely cover them. I left them in overnight, and finally took them out so I could do the dishes.

The jeans are probably OK, and most of the shirt is OK. But there was one point when a whole bunch of stuff came pouring down on one shoulder of Rob's shirt. That part of his shirt still smells.

So, maybe I'll try all of the suggestions in one sinkful.

Hey, I know. We have a 'secret' recipe for getting skunk smell off of our dog. Maybe I'll try that.

I'll let you guys know how it all turns out, so you can pass it on to your wives ;)

When I was young, I remember that my grandmother used to use a small amount of kerosene in the wash water to remove grease and oil and also when washing whites. I remember it because of how white she would get the whites and I asked what she did to get them so clean.

Rob and Loretta you have done a great job on this project. You 2 make a great team and are a great example of what a husband and wife can accomplish when they pull together. I am always impressed at the quality of your handiwork.

Randall, thanks for the great compliment.
The rest of you guys, no I'm not gonna document the shirt soaking ... lol. Looks like Loretta is going to take care of that. You guys have to watch what Tom suggest to do. He is nuts.:D

It was cold and rainy (again) today.
Nevertheless, I put my rain gear on and ran the Kama for several hours. I put the loader and backhoe on yesterday, and was planning on trenching the areas in front of the culverts. I got 2 of them pretty well cleared and flowing very good. Sorry, no photos. It was hard enough to try to smoke a cigarette without crumbling it in the rain. I didn't want to chance bringing the camera with me and getting it soaked. Then have Tom advise me to dry it the microwave or something. Hot coffee was good though.

The Kama ran excellent for the couple 2 or 3 hours I put on it today.
Oil pressure stayed at 60psi around 1650rpm. And when I brought it down to idle, it went down to 50psi. So I think that little test let all the new components settle in to each other. I also dug a little bit in the pond area, but it was so muddy, I only spent a half hour in there. After that, I actually hosed it off to clean it up a little? Hmmm:confused:

Once again, I've got to sing my praises to Loretta. You ruined a new shirt and nice jeans when you have a closet full of old ones and you're not in the dog house? My wife still reminds me of the time I painted an apartment 20 yrs ago in a new Izod polo shirt.

Hold it just a second now..... let me analyze this. You were looking pretty clean and dapper in the photo and exactly who is taking the picture? I suspect it was Loretta. She had the opportunity to ask you to change before the inevitable happened now didn't she? Rob, I apologize. Here I am wondering why I can't ruin a shirt and Rob gets away with it Scott free? The truth is Loretta had her chance to intervene and she recognizes this. The next time my wife brings up that darn polo shirt, I'm putting the law down....I am certain she saw me that day before I left because I wouldn't have been allowed to leave the house without orders/directives. Therefore, she too could have told me to change shirts! ;). Wow, this thread solved what 20 yrs of marriage counseling couldn't! The benefits of TBN never cease to amaze me!!!!!!!!!
