This weeks Advertiser Democrat Newspaper published in Norway, Maine reports that three coyotes killed a 10.5 year old appaloosa horse in Otisfield the other night. Evidentally the coyotes culled this horse, who had poor eyesight, from the rest. They chased the horse which in panic broke through two strands of barbed wire. The horse turned several times in order to defend itself, and ran further after the attempts. The horse finally broke it's leg in the panicked attempt to flee, and at that point the coyotes were able to complete the kill. Neighbors have been commenting on the increased coyote population and related noises. The nearby grammar school has kept the kids inside during their breaks fearing a coyote attack on one of them.

Boy, these things are getting nasty!

Landman; years back when I lived next to a horse farm the coyotes would harrass the horse all the time. They would get the horse's worked up and running in circles. They'd try to push them out to the far end of the pasture where the land was rough and hard to get to.

As far as shooting animals for "thrills", nothing could be further from the truth in describing hunters. .

Trophy hunters come to mind, what about the tough guys that import animals {bears lions wolfs etc} for caged hunts?

I still like to feel most hunter are decent, but over the past few years I've noticed a HUGE decline in respect.

These are NOT hunters, and any real sportsman will tell you that. Besides, with the amount of money "trophy shooting"(I won't even call it hunting) costs, there are VERY few of these worthless piles of poo around.

I'm not much of a hunter, but around here the average hunter is a responsible, law abiding person. Sure there are some quacks but not many and the "real" hunters make it known to the quacks that certain things are simply not acceptable. I don't agree that the average hunter is a bad person or irresponsible.

:rolleyes:300uguy, you've only met a handful of hunters if that is your opinion of them. I know a great many that are just the opposite and that's just the ones that I know. Someone can just as easily make the assumption that all folks with the name 300uguy are ?*&$%#@...I'll stop the old person is coming out in me!

Harold, nicely put.

I've hunted all my life. As far as the op goes, go buy some property in a deer hunting area, and tell me how that goes. Look at some of the postings on these boards - anything to do with trespassing gets lots of response. It is a real problem in many rural areas. There is a reason that virtually all private property is posted no hunting / no trespassing. Until you own some rural property yourself, you really don't know what we have to deal with. Most hunters I know are pretty reasonable, until it comes to getting a deer. Then everything is ok, as long as you don't get caught. We get a lot of guys out here from urban areas, looking for a place to hunt. They pretty much ignore no hunting signs, and when they get caught, they are pretty surly about it. It is hard to get the sheriff out here on these things, because they get overwhelmed in deer season. And as far as the op - google tresspassing south carolina - I get thousands of hits - it goes on there too. Unfortunately, a lot of people in our society practice situational honesty - they are as honest as they are forced to be. Like I said, go buy a few acres and see how many goofs you gotta run off. Then tell me what great guys they are.

300UGUY: guy down the road came home one day and kept hearing banging. He finally went out to see what was going on. Some dip wad was putting{nailing} a tree satnd up {on his posted property} about 50' from his house .

Two weeks ago I left to go on a cruise. As I was boarding the ship my cell phone rang. It was the girl who was feeding my horses while I was gone. Hunters were on my property and left the gates open and the horses got out.

She phoned the police who said they could do nothing about it because my property wasn't posted. :(
