Now that's funny....

I don't know about you guy's :p

I have run ALL types of equipment in my life and as far as Loaders,Dozer's and Scrapers are concerned why would you EVER want to go backwards

Ya i'll trade off a D-10N for a 2-U or 637-E for a DW-21 and i have always missed changing cables :(
Maybe go back to the old IH double headed engines

I suppose if your just going forward all day dragging an implement it doesn't
matter

Going from a HST to a Powershuttle is not a step backwards!! Best move ever. Dynastep would have been nice, but not offered in the CUT line....YET.

When talking of geared tractors these days one may have to get pretty specific.

That's true. I don't even know what the technical or 'branded' name for my tranny is. The model designation is 'DT', which stands for durable transmission. :D

However, looking at the shop manual, other than the PTO system which is operated by an electronically activated hydraulic clutch, the rest of the transmission looks like something from the 1950's. Very basic.

I'm sure my wife could break it but that doesn't prove anything.:D (Actually, she has always been able to drive a manual and prefers them.)

Well Roy you are probably right, but note I have both types and still like both types.

I will take a break though, I have spent waaaaaay to much time converseing with waaaaaaay too many closed minded people.

I hope you also include yourself intot he clse minded group...? I don't see you giving much ground up???

My wife could break a 250# anvil with a rolled up newspaper in about 12 seconds....

I'm not her husband.. I'm more like 'tech supt' for anything mechanical or electronic in her life... :)

Those tractors stopped on the Railway Track with a train acoming sound interesting. It would be fun to be able to watch as the fellow the hydro realizes there is danger acoming and steps on the go pedal to nicely clear the track. Then there is the fellow with the four speed collar shift who forgets its still in third and stalls when he gets in a hurry, then gets excited and jams her in first and pops the clutch only to stall again. Then it's that time where the kinectic energy gets compared to some static energy!

Senarios are as many as there are posters and usually sound a little ridiculous. Eh!:D:D

Do them Doctors in the operating room still us the same tools they did 50 years ago??

Or if you wish I could do some fillings for you with the machine my Dentist used 55 years ago! Might have to get you to operate the treadle though!:D

I'm not a surgeon, but I'd say that 75% of the tools used 50 years ago are still in use. Sure, there's plenty of new stuff too, but just like with geared tractors, if something works as advertised not much reason to throw it out.

Or if you wish I could do some fillings for you with the machine my Dentist used 55 years ago! Might have to get you to operate the treadle though!:D

I don't need any fillings. My teeth are in great shape....because I use a toothbrush.....which was invented maybe about 150 years ago...:D

And as for the closed minded argument....that's the silliest argument ever invented and given credibility. When someone accuses you of being closed minded all they're doing is complaining that you don't think the way they do.....which is closed minded.:D:D:D

You are right on the mark.

So far this thread has gone back and forth, back and forth. Some like gear, some like HST(I lean more towards HST).

So where are folks posting about their tranny woes?

I have been here since this was a Kubota site, before it morphed to TBN. That was a couple years before the 2000 date on my sig; all us old timers defaulted to 2000 when this site officially became TBN.

You hardly ever hear much about failed trannies. Where are they? I know there are a few. But of the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of post here, you hardly ever hear of broken trannies, gear or hydro, from any manufacturer.

I read of other stuff breaking. But trannies?

Maybe Hakim could write a little sed/awk script to search for all the tranny failure posts?

Well, there has been a fair share of ridiculousness both ways.

But I agree, maintenance is probably a non issue. A gear tranny, as Soundguy mentioned, can probably hold up to negligence better, but that really isn't a selling point for most of us.
