Anything but a hydro...why?

   / Anything but a hydro...why? #81
I am one of those tuxedo tractor users and wouldn't have anything but a hydro. I am also a retired truck driver and wouldn't have anything to do with an automatic transmission in a truck.

Use the right tool for the job.

If youæ±*e looking for a crawler that does more with less effort, you値l
put your operators in the seat of ours. The 850Kç—´ job-proven
hydrostatic system goes beyond the limits of other drivetrains,

delivering infi nitely variable ground speeds, power management,
and full-power turns. Whatç—´ more, Total Machine Control (TMC)
lets an operator customize machine operation and response to
personal preferences for nearly tireless operating ease that helps
make big productivity possible. Nothing runs like this Deere

Looks like them thar Deere Boys think that hydrostatic system is just the thing for us Tuxedo wearing suburbanites.:laughing:.
Come on guys, this is getting too serious, If you like gear tractors, fine if you like shuttles, fine if you like CVT's fine, If you like Hydro's fine. If you like R4 or R1 or R3 or moly grease or whatever, none of this is really important to life.

Most of the forum members don't have a separate skidsteer, they use the fel for these tasks, for this reason the hydro can make more sense.
I don't have a seperate skid steer. I run a skid steer quite often at my job.
I use my tractor to do all my loader work at home/around the house.

I dont think comparing powershift track vehicles like dozers and large loaders is any way like comparing hydrostatic transmissions. Dozers are not hydrostatic drive. A hydrostatic uses an engine to turn a hydraulic pump that then supplies power to a hydraulic powered motor that moves the tractor. That is not how dozers /large loaders are powered. They are more similar to an automatic transmission in a car than hydrostat./QUOTE]

Dozers are infact are full hydrostatic machines now. Very reliable too. I have 5000 hrs on my 2006 J series deere dozer. Not a moments trouble.

I don't think it is a matter of one being better than the other as much as the assinine comments that are so easily disproved. I am more concerned with dispelling myths and BS being propagated. The newbie tractor buyer without experience is better served with honest answers and factual information.

Gear tractors for field work are the most appropriate, less heat generation and higher efficientcy. But these gear transmissions can be very complex with 32 speed transmissions. The small compact tractors with hydros have their place too with the infinitely variable speed capabilities. Well suited for close up boxblade work and a lot of other jobs requiring back and forth movement. You do have some loss of efficientcy with a hydro but for close quarters work it is a good trade off.

What a small world, when I was in the dozer business I started in Summit MS.

Agree completely, too often opinion is stated as fact and we do a disservice to prospective owners and make proper selection even more difficult.

I like a little kidding around and do it myself, but denigrating someone for their choices/preferences is just too much.

+1 JD is 1 of the manufactures that I have not ran but if it is anything like their loaders it has to be 1 fine piece of equipment. I have quite a bit of time on both Cat and Komatsu Hystat dozers and I can tell you they cannot be beat for control and pushing power. The D3 hystat made my D3B feel like a toy in all aspects. To be able to vary track speed and not loose power is key and to do all this with 1 stick is beyond impressive. CJ

The Cat D3K, D4K, D5K, and D6K tractors are all hydrostatic, as are the 953, 963, and 973 track loaders. Those machines span a range of 74 HP to 253 HP. Don't take my word for it, check it out at Cat Products & Services.
