I paid $1.79 a gallon on 2/4/10 to fill up my tank (about 110 gallons) here in the UP of Michigan.

Came out yesterday morning to find a bill on the ground from my supplier.

75 gallon fill into a 250 gallon tank at $2.82 a gallon. By my calculations, I was only at 62% and did not need a fill for quite a while. I only run 2 hot water heaters, one not too hot for the shower and the other on "vacation" for the clothes and dish washer. I turn it up when needed to get the water warm for washing. (Not often, one person household).

That's the price you pay for living in paradise Out of curiosity, do you use propane only for cooking and hot water - no heating?

Our last bill from our ripoff supplier was $3.89 per gallon. My wife called, which she does every time and they knocked $1.00 per gallon off the bill just for asking. It's always something like that. I pity the folks who just pay the bill. Before the next delivery we are going to switch suppliers.

A year and a half ago the price went over $4. We put in a heat pump and have been happy ever since. It will pay for itself in about 3-4 years. Still have the propane for heating water and for when the temps get too low for the heat pump to be efficient. I've got it set to switch to propane automatically when the temps fall below 30 deg. When it gets to about 32 it takes a long time to heat the house from 68 to 72 in the mornings.

Just paid $3.35 gal. here for 130 gallons. Fortunately our last fill-up was Oct. - just used for heating water and running gas logs when really cold (read when wife is really cold LOL).

I contracted it for $1.49 a gallon last summer. Unfortunately we went over what I contracted this year for the 1st time in years, so our last fillup was $1.94 a gallon. If we did not fill the tank it would have cost us $2.04 a gallon.

Just out of curiosity....did you keep your propane furnace when you added the heat pump or did you buy a new package? I got a couple of quotes for a new heat pump (2.5 ton) to replace my air conditioner and as the primary heat source with my current propane furnace as backup heat. One quote was for $4800 and the other was for $5300. Neither quote qualified for a and energy credit. One contractor said that they usually set the furnace to kick on under 40 degrees.

Last September, I contracted a fill up for the winter at 1.29 a gallon, however in October I switched suppliers and filled the tank at .99 a gallon with the cash discount.

Some of you guys are getting propane at around a 3rd of the cost that I pay, wow.

I'm installing a heat pump onto the furnace this month, as well as replacing the water heater with a GE electric heat pump model.
