Foot Treadle

My error. My 1445 does use a Napa 1759. I just went and checked.

Sorry for the confusion.

All the best,

Peter

My 1845 takes the Napa 1759 (Wix 51759) which I think is a physically larger filter than the 1551. I would have thought the 1445 and 1845 would use the same hydro filter.

coolconnection did they give you a cost estimate on the repair or replacement pump? In my pt I have rotella hydraulic oil in mine now in the hydraulics, it seems to do the job. I don't know if that was a good choice or a bad choice, but it hasn't caused any adverse effects yet.

Well on the receipt it said for a new pump covered under warranty for the PT425 is $1,985.40 so I am really glad for warranty repair. So now I really understand why it is so important to take care of the hydraulic system. I will really watch what I do with it now.

Not to talk anyone out of taking care of their tractor...but...

What you describe sounds more like either a defect in assembly at the pump factory, or more likely to my mind, a part that had a defect within it and failed.

All the best,

Peter

Ponytug, I think you are right. I guessing a hairline crack in something internally at the factory and at 73 hours it couldn't handle the stress and it became toast. But I'm still going to maintain my system well. I've read a few articles and it is not uncommon to get 15,000 to 20,000 hours out of these pumps.

About he only thing you can do, is keep the fluid below 200 degrees, and change the input filter often.

Just curious if you had ever tried to push or tow the PT?

Nope, never pushed or towed it. It has always worked before. I got the pump back yesterday and finished putting it in today. So if I did everything right it should be just fine.

I am assuming that you filled the pump with oil, and bled out all the air.

Oh yeah, don't want to have to go through this again. All that stuff holds a lot of oil and air. I didn't think it would ever quit burping. Terry told me how to do the reinstall and get the air out like I was changing the filter which it got a new one as well. It wasn't to bad, just didn't want to overheat my starter so I waited a few minutes in between cycles. The only thing I haven't done yet is actually fire it up. After it quits snowing tomorrow it will get a work out.

Having the price of what it would have cost you had it not been under warranty is good to know for those of us that the warranty has already ran out. Just curious did he tell you of a way to manually fill the pump up before trying to purge the air out, so the pump wouldn't start out dry?

No, but the pump was shipped with oil already in it with caps on all the connectors. Remove a cap and hook up an oil line. A lot of if not all the oil still leaked out of the pump but Terry told me to bleed the air out of it like you do when you change the hydraulic filter. I did the air bleeding many times just to be sure there wasn't any air left in the pump. Now I got my battery on the charger just to be sure it will start tomorrow.
